Drew Lock completed 16-of-22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ 13-10, Week 1 win over the Patriots.

Lock took over for Sam Darnold after he suffered a hip injury at the end of Seattle’s opening drive. Darnold was initially listed as questionable to return but was ruled out for good just before halftime. Lock acquitted himself well, averaging 8.5 yards per attempt with just one sack. He also added two carries for 13 yards on the ground. Jaxon Smith-Njigba did most of the work for him with a 45-yard touchdown grab in the fourth quarter. All but four of the yards came after the catch. Still, Lock took care of the ball, peppered his best receiver with targets, and came away with the win. If Darnold is out for an extended period, Lock would be near the back of the QB2 mix for fantasy purposes. Superflex managers will want to take a flyer on him unless we get good news about Darnold over the next few days.

The report comes from the Ringer’s Tom Pelissero, who adds that “there is no timetable” for Darnold’s recovery, which will be based on “how he feels and how he recovers.” Pelissero referred to QB Drew Lock as “the likely starter” for the Seahawks’ Week 2 game against the Cardinals.

Darnold will undergo more testing tomorrow to gain more info on the hip injury he suffered in the first quarter of Seattle’s Week 1 win over New England. The good news is that a season-ending hip fracture has been ruled out, though there are still other serious injuries on the table. Drew Lock will start for the Seahawks until Darnold is able to return. Lock threw for 187 yards and a score in the team’s win over the Pats.
  • SEA Quarterback #14
Darnold was slammed into the ground while being sacked on Seattle’s opening drive. He immediately went into the blue medical tent and was eventually listed as questionable to return. Seattle ruled him out just before the end of the first half. Drew Lock will stay under center for the remainder of the game. After putting up zero points during the first half, the fantasy outlook of every relevant Seattle pass-catcher will take a massive hit if this hip injury keeps Darnold on the sidelines beyond Week 1.
  • SEA Quarterback #14
Darnold is reportedly dealing with an oblique injury that has prevented him from throwing a single pass during the practice week. The quarterback also seems to be protecting his oblique even during pre-game warmups, but he has maintained that he will play. It remains to be seen how impactful Darnold will be, but Drew Lock will be ready in case the Seahawks need to adjust. The Seahawks inactives are QB Jalen Milroe, LB Jared Ivey, OL Josh Jones, G Bryce Cabeldue, OL Mason Richman, and DE Rylie Mills.
  • SEA Quarterback
As reported by The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Duggar, Milroe played behind both Sam Darnold and Drew Lock and “didn’t have many plays that stood out” during the week. The team’s decision to play him with the third-string shouldn’t come as a surprise, as there’s a good chance Milroe, who was considered an unpolished passer upon entering the draft, could redshirt in his rookie season as he looks to learn behind two vets. While he could usurp Drew Lock on the depth chart with a strong training camp, fantasy managers shouldn’t expect much out of Milroe as a rookie outside of the occasional gadget play.
  • SEA Quarterback #6
In a recent radio appearance, Seahawks GM John Schneider said that the team is prepared to allow Howell and the recently-acquired Drew Lock to compete for the primary backup role behind Sam Darnold. Schneider may have been engaging in a bit of public negotiating, though, effectively telling teams to up their offer. Jaren Hall currently sits fourth on the depth chart behind them. While Hall would be the odd man out if no trade materializes, seeing Howell depart via a draft-day trade this week would be unsurprising.
  • SEA Quarterback
The six-year veteran signal caller, who was previously a member of the Seahawks for two seasons from 2022-2023, returns as a backup to starter Sam Darnold. Lock was a key component in the trade which brought quarterback Russell Wilson to Denver in 2022. Last season, Lock went 1-4 in five starts with the Giants. The 28-year-old spent his first three NFL seasons with the Broncos and has passed for 6,354 yards in 36 career NFL games (28 starts).
  • NYG Quarterback #2
To be clear, Duggan specifically says it “would be a surprise if either side is interested in continuing the relationship.” That kind of trust-building does happen when your supposed QB2 is benched for Tommy DeVito. Lock will be entering his age-29 season and is probably a low-end QB2 at best, but there are plenty of openings around the league. Backup-needy teams will probably look into Lock given his relatively young age and what his arm talent can show on his best days.
  • NYG Quarterback #2
Locks’ day would have looked much worse if it wasn’t for a desperation throw to Malik Nabers in the fourth quarter that turned into a 45-yard touchdown. Lock ends the season with 1,071 passing yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 59.1 percent of his passes. His season highlight came in Week 17 when he inexplicably threw for 309-4-0 in an upset win over the Colts, but most of what we saw from Lock this season was par for the course. Now set to hit free agency this offseason, Lock will undoubtedly get a chance to compete for a backup job in camp, but any hopes of him one day emerging as an NFL starter can officially be laid to rest.
  • NYG Quarterback #2
It goes without saying the five touchdowns were a career high, while the 309 yards passing were tied for Lock’s third most. His 155.3 QB rating was easily a new personal best. All this against a Colts pass defense that had entered Week 17 playing surprisingly well. Lock’s two biggest plays were Malik Nabers 31- and 59-yard touchdown catch-and-runs that featured admittedly awful Indy tackling. Lock still did plenty on his own, routinely extending plays and passing for first downs after being flushed from the pocket. Lock took zero sacks and committed zero turnovers as he simply outplayed Joe Flacco. Lock gets one more audition to be someone else’s No. 2 next season when the Giants visit the likely-to-be-starter-resting Eagles in Week 18.

DLLS Sports’ Clarence Hill Jr. reports Malik Davis was carted off the field on Friday with an injury.

Hill added that it doesn’t look good for Sunday, but the Cowboys are still determining the severity of the injury. Dallas cut Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue at the end of camp, briefly leaving Davis as the only backup running back on their roster. They eventually signed Emari Demercado after he was released by Kansas City. If the injury is serious, the Cowboys could bring either Mafah or Davis back, given their familiarity with the system.

    Packers released WR Bo Melton.

The former seventh-round pick never managed to carve out a reliable role for himself in Green Bay. Melton posted a career-best 16/218/1 stat line in 2023. The Packers eventually tried him out at cornerback in 2025. Shortly after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the release, his colleague Rob Demovsky reported that the Packers will likely re-sign him soon.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the Lions could sign TE Sam LaPorta to a contract extension early in the season.

Schefter was exploring extension possibilities across the NFL with colleague Pat McAfee and noted that the Lions have a propensity for signing players to extensions in-season. The stud tight end spent the offseason rehabbing after undergoing back surgery. Perhaps the front office just wants to make sure LaPorta returns to his pre-injury form this month before signing him to a lucrative deal. He is scheduled to enter free agency next offseason. Signing him to a long-term deal makes sense. He is a locked-in TE1 this season.

The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reports the 49ers extended Kyle Shanahan during the offseason.

The Shanahan victory lap continues after his well-slept squad easily toppled Sean McVay’s jet-lagged Rams in Australia last night. Per Pelissero, he was previously signed through 2027. Coaching contracts are not made public, so we don’t know exactly when his new deal is up. Still, it’s safe to assume he will remain in San Francisco for a very long time. One game into his 10th season as the 49ers’ head coach, Shanahan’s record stands at 83-67. He has two Super Bowl appearances to his name, though he’s still looking for his first win.

Saints ruled out Oscar Delp (hamstring) for Week 1 against the Lions.

The mid-round dynasty darling will have to wait at least a week before making his NFL debut. Delp’s absence helps starting TE Juwan Johnson consolidate positional targets, but Delp does not need to be rostered in 12-team leagues.

Saints RB Alvin Kamara (knee) is questionable to play in Week 1 against the Lions.

Kamara logged two limited sessions to begin the week, and New Orleans Football’s Nick Underhill said he thinks Kamara will play, barring a setback. We do not yet know Kamara’s practice participation level on Friday, but he is traveling with the team, which is a good sign. Kamara would be a PPR FLEX if active. He is expected to play on passing downs while starting RB Travis Etienne leads the team in carries. Etienne is the best bet to handle the primary red zone role, but Kamara has been a prolific touchdown scorer over his career and could factor in. The Saints ruled out RB Audric Estime (thigh).

Ty Johnson (hamstring) is questionable for Week 1 against the Texans.

Johnson returned to practice on Friday after missing the first two sessions of the week with the hamstring issue. One practice might not be enough to get him on the field for Week 1, but it means he shouldn’t miss much more than Buffalo’s opening game. If he is ruled out, James Cook would likely pick up some extra work on passing downs.

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said RB Jeremiyah Love (ankle) will be a game-day decision for Week 1 against the Chargers.

Two ESPN reports over the last 24 hours have indicated Love will likely play, though no one has actually confirmed this. LaFleur also said that Love is “trending well” while speaking to media members before Friday’s practice. If he practices fully, he should be good to go. He still has a chance to play even if he remains limited, but RB Tyler Allgeier might take on a few extra touches in that scenario. Stay tuned.

Cardinals CB Garrett Williams (Achilles) will not play in Week 1 against the Chargers.

The Cardinals will also be without S Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (ribs) and RG Isaiah Adams (knee). Williams is working his way back from a torn Achilles he suffered in Week 16 of last season. He was able to avoid the PUP list to start the season and has been a limited participant in practice all week, but head coach Mike LaFleur is opting to give him at least one more week of rest before putting him on the field. We’ll see if he’s able to suit up in Week 2 when the Cardinals play host to the Seahawks.

Ravens HC Jesse Minter said DT Nnamdi Madubuike (neck) will not play in Week 1 against the Colts.

Despite being a limited participant in practice all week, the Ravens will continue to exercise caution with Madubuike, who is attempting to return from what was once believed to be a career-ending neck injury. The 28-year-old lineman has had an encouraging offseason and training camp and could find himself on the field soon, but the Ravens will give him at least one more week to prepare. We’ll see if he’s able to suit up for Week 2 when the Ravens play host to the Saints.
