Ja’Marr Chase caught 2-of-4 targets for 12 yards in the Bengals’ Week 1 win over the Bucs.

Typically if you see 33 points for the Bengals, you are going to assume a big day for the No. 1 wideout, especially vs. an undermanned secondary. It wasn’t meant to be for whatever reason — one reason was short fields set up by Bucs turnovers — with Joe Burrow looking Chase’s way on only four of 35 attempts. Burrow was also more focused on the middle of the field than the boundary. It continues Burrow and Chase’s baffling habit of quiet Week 1 efforts, but there is nothing to read in to it heading into Week 2. Chase will be a locked-and-loaded WR1 vs. an elite Texans defense smarting for a Week 1 collapse vs. Buffalo.

His first touchdown was a breathtaking back-shoulder ball that required picture-perfect foot dragging to bring in for a score — it was such a good catch that CBS play-by-play man Kevin Harlan didn’t actually believe it was a touchdown at first. He added a second touchdown out of structure when Joe Burrow drifted to the right of the pocket and lured Reed Blankenship up to create a hole for Chase. Fantasy’s WR1 is back at it again and should (obviously) be started and trusted against the Steelers in Week 3.

Chase was a full participant in each of the Bengals’ first two practices to start the week and is good to go for Week 1, according to head coach Zac Taylor. Chase can be trusted as a high-end WR1 for fantasy players in a matchup against the Buccaneers that should be ripe for fantasy points.
  • CIN Wide Receiver #1
Chase’s participation actually exceeds expectations. Beginning the week with a limited session would have been unsurprising. The Bengals’ star wide receiver hyperextended his knee on August 25th, but he is now good to go. Treat Chase as an elite WR1, per usual.

He said the same about Tee Higgins, who is dealing with a heel issue. Chase suffered a serious-looking knee injury late in camp, briefly giving Bengals fans and fantasy managers nightmares of him missing extended time. He was ultimately fine and should be good to go for Week 1, even if his participation in practice is limited. Per usual, Chase is in the WR1-overall mix versus the Bengals this week.

Tee Higgins (heel contusion) was also spotted at practice after both players were said to be limited participants last week. The Bengals won’t release their first official injury report of the week until Wednesday, but it doesn’t sound like either Chase or Higgins is at risk of missing Week 1’s game against the Buccaneers. As usual, Chase profiles as a high-end fantasy WR1, while Higgins should be viewed more as a WR2 with WR1 upside in any given week.

We’re not viewing this as a major cause for concern; the Bengals have no reason to rush Chase back on the field after he hyperextended his knee last week. If he’s still drawing limited tags on the official injury reports next week, then we can start Panic Mode. Taylor added that Higgins (heel contusion) may also be limited this week. "(Tee) and Ja’Marr will be good at the end of the week,” said Taylor.

Chase was not being tended to on the sideline but did appear to be stretching out his leg and told reporters later that it was ‘just a little hyperextension.’ He didn’t return to practice but wasn’t getting any other medical attention. This is probably just going to wind up being a footnote, but it did scare everybody for a few minutes.

Coming off a triple-crown season in 2024, expectations were sky-high for Chase, with most fantasy managers treating him as the 1.01 in drafts. His and the Bengals’ season, however, was quickly derailed by a turf toe injury to Joe Burrow. Chase totaled 10 catches for 73 yards in Jake Browning’s first two starts of the year. He got on track in Browning’s third start and then kept his foot on the gas after Joe Flacco took over under center. Chase put up his usual video game numbers with Flacco and eventually Burrow on the sticks in the second half of the season. From Week 6 onward, Chase amassed 93 catches for 1,038 yards and five scores. He did, however, miss one game late in the year after being hit with a one-game suspension for spitting on Steelers corner Jalen Ramsey in Week 11. It’s strange to call a 1,400-yard season a disappointment, but Chase could have posted another historic campaign had things gone to plan for Burrow and the team. Still, he has done nothing to dissuade fantasy managers from treating him as the WR1 overall for 2026.

Musing during the week about the fact he had not scored since Week 7, Chase naturally responded with the 13th multi-score effort of his increasingly-illustrious career. No. 1 was a 13-yard YAC job on a first quarter quick out. No. 2 was an eight-yarder on a second quarter goal-line slant. Leading 30-7 midway through the third quarter and 37-7 before the frame was through, the Bengals then took the air out of the ball for the entire fourth quarter. Stacking up absurd stats as always, Chase is just three receptions away from his second straight 120-catch campaign. He should be rocking and rolling early against the Browns in Week 18.

The 100-yard outing was the seventh of the season for the Bengals’ alpha. It came with Tee Higgins back in the lineup. Chase has had a few clunkers over the past month, but you can basically take 6/90 to the bank, while 8/120 is always realistic. That will include for Week 17 against the Cardinals, who are in the running for the worst defense going right now.

Commanders RB Kaytron Allen (hip) practiced in full on Thursday.

Allen should be good to go for backup duties against the Seahawks in Week 3, although he currently sits in the No. 3 spot. If starting RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt were to miss time, Allen could end up being the team’s lead rusher.

Commanders TE Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday.

Okonkwo is on the wrong side of questionable at this point. He sat out in Week 2 and has not yet resumed practicing. Backup TE Ben Sinnott earned just one target last week. He does not need to be rostered.

Rams WR Jordan Whittington (quad) was limited on Thursday.

It is unclear whether the Rams will get their backup wide receiver back. Whittington cannot be treated as a reliable FLEX starter if he plays in place of WR Puka Nacua (hip) this week.

Rams TE Terrance Ferguson (ankle) practiced in full on Thursday.

Ferguson should be good to go for the Rams’ Week 3 game against the Broncos. He posted a 6/54/1 receiving line with WR1 Puka Nacua (hip) sidelined last week and could again serve as the Rams’ de facto No. 2 pass-catcher this week.

Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp (back) practiced in full on Thursday.

Kupp will not be fantasy-relevant in 12-team managed leagues this week, but he could be an option in single-game DFS tournaments. If QB Sam Darnold (glute) can play, he will appreciate having Kupp on the field with him.

Seahawks RB Jadarian Price (chest) was limited on Thursday.

Price is on track to play in Week 3 against the Commanders, but he remained limited today while receiving specialist, running back George Holani (knee) upgraded to full participation. North-south running back Emanuel Wilson led the team with 21 carries in Week 2. The Seahawks could employ a committee again this week.

Seahawks QB Sam Darnold (glute) practiced in full on Thursday.

Darnold said today that he is “striving” to play in Week 3 against the Commanders. It sounds like his striding is going well, too. The Seahawks’ starting quarterback is now seemingly on track to play on Sunday. Darnold’s strained glute tendon has healed faster than expected. If active, he can be treated as a high-end QB2.

Broncos WR Marvin Mims (foot) was limited on Thursday.

Mims has a chance to return this week, but his availability is not yet guaranteed. Regardless, he is not fantasy-relevant in 12-team leagues. He more so functions as a slight target share problem for other Broncos pass catchers.

Broncos RB Jonah Coleman (ankle) did not practice on Thursday.

The burly rookie has not yet resumed practicing, while both RB J.K. Dobbins (hamstring) and RB RJ Harvey (hamstring) upgraded to full participation today. Coleman should remain stashed on fantasy football benches.

Broncos RB RJ Harvey (hamstring) practiced in full on Thursday.

Harvey is on track to return in Week 3 against the Rams after sitting out the Broncos’ Week 2 game against the Jaguars. With RB Jonah Coleman (ankle) ailing, Harvey could take on a slightly larger-than-normal workload, though not enough to treat him as anything higher than a FLEX option.
