Mahomes has another multi-score start vs. Dolphins

Patrick Mahomes completed 20-of-24 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Chiefs’ 24-10, Week 3 win over the Dolphins.

With the Dolphins playing ball-control offense, the Chiefs were limited to just 49 total plays, but Mahomes and company compensated with extreme efficiency. That included long catch-and-run gains to Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice, with Mahomes also finding the former for an end zone score. Mahomes has now posted multiple passing scores in each of his first three starts. It took him seven games to accomplish that feat last year. There was a scary moment when Mahomes got “body weighted” by DL Chop Robinson, but Mahomes shook it off as Robinson was flagged for roughing. Currently averaging 8.3 yards per attempt after that number was 7.1 a year ago, Mahomes is looking at home in this “new look” Chiefs attack once again coordinated by Eric Bieniemy. He has another soft Week 4 matchup in the Raiders before the Chiefs head on early-season bye.

Mahomes looked much more like himself against the Colts than he did against the Broncos in Week 1, with his typical mobility in the pocket on full display as he extended plays. He even escaped the pocket twice to pick up crucial first downs with his legs in key situations, looking closer to how he did before tearing his ACL in 2025. Mahomes managed to complete two passes greater than 30 yards, one to Tyquan Thornton and one to Rashee Rice, an area of his game that he has not excelled in over the previous two seasons. Even so, it took the Chiefs two possessions in overtime to finally sneak by the tenacious Colts, moving to a 2-0 record ahead of a road date with the Dolphins in Week 3. Mahomes has returned to weekly QB1 status, although the team could look to continue its dominance on the ground against a week opponent.
  • KC Quarterback #15
Mahomes ran the ball seven times for 23 yards and one touchdown last week before practicing in full this week. Both factors are encouraging. The Chiefs’ star quarterback warrants QB1 treatment against the Colts in Week 2.

Rashee Rice (knee) is also practicing in full. Both players underwent offseason knee procedures and had slow ramp-ups during the summer. Both players were active for Week 1 and found the end zone. Mahomes did so on the ground, putting the notion that he would be hampered by the knee issue to rest. The passing attack still looked shaky in Week 1, but there are no health concerns for either player. Mahomes will be a low-end QB1 versus the Colts, and Rice will hold a spot in the WR2 ranks.
  • KC Quarterback #15
A rushing score on the team’s first possession appeared to calm fantasy owners’ nerves as that was the area of Mahomes’ game most in question coming off the injury, but concerns grew as he completed just two of his first 12 pass attempts in his first start since suffering a torn ACL in 2025. A passing score to Rashee Rice at the end of the first half elevated his counting stats further before a shuttle pass touchdown to Kenneth Walker after the break took him into fantasy QB1 territory. Even so, the outing was far from perfect as Mahomes missed numerous open receivers on his way to a paltry 6.8 yards per pass attempt. Mahomes’ lone interception was a badly overthrown ball on a miscommunication in the third quarter that could have been much more damning had the Kansas City defense not held the Broncos to a field goal on the resulting possession. With games against the Colts, Dolphins, and Raiders on tap the next three weeks, the Chiefs could continue to lean on Walker after the recent addition out-gained the entire Denver offense by himself in Week 1. Mahomes will be difficult to trust until he proves to be more accurate through the air.
  • KC Quarterback #15
Earlier this week, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said there is a “good chance” that Mahomes starts in Week 1. At this point, we would be surprised if he didn’t. The Chiefs’ quarterback is coming off season-ending ACL and LCL tears and will likely scramble less frequently than he did last year, potentially hurting his expected fantasy football output. He is a borderline QB1/2 against the Broncos’ elite defense.

We would be very surprised if Mahomes didn’t start Week 1 given how this has trended this offseason, but Reid left it in some doubt, adding “Most likely, he’ll be the guy that’s out there.” Justin Fields would be the starter if Mahomes couldn’t go, we doubt we’ll be talking about that possibility seriously on Friday or Saturday ahead of Kansas City’s MNF opener.
  • KC Running Back #9
Chiefs coach Andy Reid and QB Patrick Mahomes believe last season’s run game failed to make defenses respect their play-action run fakes. With Walker now on board, the Chiefs believe both the run game and play-action game will improve. The staff has catered to Walker by installing more plays from under center, which Walker prefers to shotgun. “One way Walker can help transform the offense,” per Taylor, “is by becoming a true dual-threat player.” Reid believes Walker’s “receiving skills and ability to make defenders miss” will allow Reid to incorporate “one of his favorite passing concepts: the variety of plays where a play-action fake to the running back is executed before a short screen pass is thrown back to the same running back.” Walker should be expected to handle a high-end, dual-threat workload. He is a locked-in RB1 with immense upside.

Mahomes will sit the entire preseason, though that shouldn’t be taken as an indication that he won’t be ready for Week 1. He suffered a torn ACL and LCL in Week 15 last year, which would normally make the 2026 opener a tight turnaround. Superstars just recover differently from other players. Mahomes has had no issues throwing or running during training camp and his absence from the preseason is likely a precautionary measure from Andy Reid and the Chiefs. We fully expect him to take on the Broncos when Week 1 rolls around.
  • KC Quarterback #15
It has, by all accounts, been an encouraging training camp for Mahomes, who has been present for every practice and has yet to miss a rep. While all signs seem to point to Mahomes being ready to go for Week 1 against the Broncos, Reid said the team is continuing to take it “day by day” with the star quarterback. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last week that Mahomes was on track to return, and most indicators seem to support that. Until the team gives us reason to believe Mahomes won’t be ready to face the Broncos, we will cautiously assume he’ll be good to go in a few weeks.
  • KC Quarterback #15
The AFC West showdown takes place on September 14th, giving Mahomes just over three weeks to fit in a little extra rehab. Schefter adds that Mahomes has “cleared every hurdle” in training camp this summer. He has missed zero reps and reportedly “looks strong” on the practice field. Mahomes can be treated as a fantasy football QB1.

Brenton Strange caught 3-of-5 targets for 32 yards in the Jaguars’ Week 3 win against the Patriots.

Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers dominated looks from Trevor Lawrence on a low-volume day for the Jacksonville offense. Strange played his usual role as a check down option for Lawrence, rumbling for yards after the catch on two of his three grabs. Strange, with seven catches on the year, could be a streaming play in Week 4 against the Bengals if the game turns into a shootout.

Najee Harri rushed nine times for 52 yards in the Giants’ Week 3 win over the Titans.

Devin Singletary was inactive this week and Tyrone Tracy only touched the ball once, leaving nearly all of the backup running back touches to Harris. He gashed the Titans for 5.2 yards per carry but wasn’t involved in the receiving game, limiting his fantasy value. Harris is the clear backup to Cam Skattebo, but he won’t see enough touches to be worth a FLEX spot when the Giants take on the Cardinals next week.

    Harold Fannin

    CLE Tight End #44

Harold Fannin caught 7-of-9 targets for 51 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns’ Week 3 win over the Panthers.

With the Panthers working overtime to keep Deshaun Watson underneath and the washed quarterback happily obliging, Fannin doubled his season receptions total while scoring his first two touchdowns. Score No. 1 was a fourth down crosser where Fannin got free at the back end of the end zone. No. 2 was a scramble drill where the quarterback bought time and again found Fannin in the painted area. Although the yardage total remained modest, it was nice to see Fannin prove pop-up efforts will still be possible for him in this underpowered offense. With Watson seemingly growing more short-area focused by the day, Fannin’s target counts might start ticking back upward. He’s a credible TE1 for Week 4 against the Steelers.

Vikings ruled out Justin Jefferson (ankle) in Week 3 against the Bucs.

Jefferson picked up the ankle injury in the second quarter. He limped to the locker room shortly before halftime and was officially ruled out midway through the third quarter. Hopefully for the Vikings it’s not a long-term issue for the centerpiece of their offense. Jordan Addison would be the de facto No. 1 wideout if Jefferson misses time with the ankle injury. He caught a long touchdown from Kyler Murray against Tampa shortly after Jefferson left the game.

KC Concepcion caught 2-of-9 targets for nine yards in the Browns’ Week 3 win over the Panthers.

Well that’s not going to cut it. As ESPN’s Mike Clay points out, rookie first-rounder Concepcion is up to 20 targets over three appearances but has just 80 yards to show for it. He is not being put in position to make explosive plays, and he is very much not doing so. With a yards per catch more befitting of a sluggish running back (6.6), Concepcion is best left outside the WR4 ranks ahead of a tough Week 4 date with the Steelers.

Denzel Boston caught 2-of-4 targets for 41 yards in the Browns’ Week 3 win over the Panthers.

Boston’s 41 yards were his fewest in three games as a pro, though he has now contributed at least one 20-yard catch all three times out. On the rare occasions Deshaun Watson actually throws down-field, he’s looking only for Boston. That will lead to some spiked weeks, but Boston’s floor is too low to rank him inside the top 36 on a regular basis, including Thursday’s short-week home date with the Steelers.

Stefon Diggs caught 4-of-7 targets for 33 yards in the Commanders’ Week 3 win over the Seahawks.

Diggs didn’t catch any passes in the first half on his three targets, but “bounced back” in the final two quarters to turn a disaster of a game into a middling one. The wideout was able to score two touchdowns in Week 2 against Dallas, but was closer to non-factor than threat against a tougher Seattle defense. He’ll look to rebound and find the end zone again as the second option behind Terry McLaurin against the Colts in London in Week 4.

Quinshon Judkins rushed 18 times for 70 yards in the Browns’ Week 3 win over the Panthers, adding two receptions for nine yards.

Both Judkins’ carries and yards were new season highs, though so was his 3.9 yards per carry. That tells you all you need to know about his explosive-play odds in this low-ceiling attack. Judkins at least remains unchallenged for touches. Judkins’ usage gives him a low-end RB2 floor, but the same seems true of his ceiling. The Steelers are not a good Week 4 matchup for the Dawg Pound.

Cam Skattebo rushed 20 times for 60 yards in the Giants’ Week 3 win over the Titans, adding three catches for 40 yards.

With the Titans struggling to amass more than a handful of first downs, John Harbaugh was more than happy to grind out three yards per carry with his lead back for the better part of four quarters. Skattebo’s only explosive play came on a downfield shot from Jameis Winston. Skattebo got open deep while Winston fled the pocket and the two connected for a 30-yard gain. That alone was enough to make Skattebo the team’s leading receiver. Skattebo’s strong workload will keep him in the RB2 ranks for Week 4 against the Cardinals, even though the offensive environment has taken a massive hit with Jaxson Dart out for the regular season.

Hunter Henry caught 1-of-2 targets for five yards in the Patriots’ Week 3 loss to the Jaguars.

With Eli Raridon sidelined, Henry still wasn’t part of the Patriots’ passing attack. Drake Maye threw one of his two picks on an end zone target to Henry. With seven catches through three games, Henry should remain on waiver wires ahead of the team’s Week 4 game against Buffalo.
