Parker Washington caught 3-of-5 targets for 40 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars’ Week 3 win against the Patriots.

It’s Washington’s second touchdown in the Jags’ first three games of the season. Washington caught his touchdown against the Patriots after having an acrobatic touchdown grab called back on a penalty. Having established himself as the team’s clear-cut WR1 — well ahead of Brian Thomas, who had one target in Week 3 — Washington will have a rock solid weekly floor with ceiling to spare in shootout game scripts. Washington should remain in all lineups next week against a middling Bengals defense, in what could be a high-scoring affair between two potent offenses.

Trevor Lawrence, as always, targeted Washington heavily, as no other Jacksonville pass catcher saw more than eight targets on the day. Washington came within half a yard of a touchdown in the first half after scoring in Week 1 against the Browns. Clearly the team’s No. 1 wideout, Washington should have a rock-solid weekly floor with upside to spare, especially when the Jaguars have to operate a more pass-heavy offense. Washington will be a top-15 play next week against the Patriots.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #11
Washington saw elite usage in the first half, making the first Jacksonville catch of the game and ending the Jaguars’ first drive with a diving 30-yard touchdown reception. He followed it up with a one-handed sideline catch on the second drive and tallied five receptions in the first half. His usage was that of a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver for the Jaguars’ fantasy-friendly offense. The game was out of hand in the second half, leading to no more receptions the rest of the day, but fantasy managers will be happy with Washington’s utilization and production as he adds to his elite box scores from the end of last season. Washington is a fantasy WR2 heading into Week 2 against the Broncos.

Per Wolfe, the Jags explored a deal similar to that of Michael Wilson, who just landed a three-year, $75 million extension. The two sides couldn’t agree to terms, and Washington will now start his contract year. It’s a highly risky move for a largely unheralded player who caught lightning in a bottle at the end of last year. Washington caught 29 passes for 507 yards and three touchdowns in his final five games, including one postseason appearance. If he repeats anything close to those numbers over a full season this year, Washington will make far more than Wilson as a free agent next offseason.

Coen also noted that Washington is “the guy right now,” suggesting that his role as the returner could change at some point in the year. Washington returned 25 punts for the Jaguars last season and racked up 341 return yards and two touchdowns on those returns. Coen said the Jaguars will hope to get Travis Hunter involved as the punt returner at some point, but Washington will start the season in the role. Washington profiles as a solid WR2 to start the fantasy season after going for 58-847-5 last year.

Jags GM James Gladstone said last week that the team was open to an in-season extension with Washington, who is set to hit free agency next offseason. Both sides want to get a deal done, but they are clearly still at odds over the details of the contract. Even if it takes longer than expected, it does look like Washington will sign an extension before he gets to test the waters of free agency. Coming off an outstanding training camp, Washington should be treated as a fantasy WR2 for the Jags’ Week 1 date with the Browns.

Washington, 24, is entering a contract year, coming off the best season of his career. He is reportedly expected to be the team’s No. 1 wide receiver. If Washington plays up to that standard, he will unquestionably be able to raise his asking price. Signing him to a deal right now could save the team money in the long term, but the front office evidently wants to see how he fares early in the year. Although this route could be costly, having a true No. 1 wide receiver affirm his financial value with top-tier play is a good problem to have.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #11
After missing last week due to an undisclosed issue, Washington was back on the field Sunday, participating in drills and working in seven-on-sevens. Whatever he was dealing with doesn’t appear to be anything too serious, which is a good sign for the fourth-year receiver who is looking to build on last year’s breakout campaign.

Washington missed this week due to an undisclosed injury, but it doesn’t sound like this is anything to be too concerned about at this point. The fourth-year receiver is expected to make his return to the field next week and should be in position to be ready for the start of the season. Washington is coming off a breakout year in which he totaled 58 receptions for 847 yards and five touchdowns, and it was reported recently that the Jaguars seem “reluctant” to take him off the field, with some believing Washington has established himself as the WR1 for the Jags. He’s sounding more and more like a reliable WR2/WR3 as we enter prime fantasy draft season.

DiRocco indicates that Washington is staying on the field for both 12 personnel and 11 personnel packages. He and WR Jakobi Meyers have reportedly led the position group in snaps this summer. Although Washington is dealing with an undisclosed injury at the moment, he is expected to return next week. DiRocco said on Tuesday that Washington has “established himself” as the team’s No. 1 wide receiver, which lines up with what we’ve been hearing all spring and summer.
  • JAC Wide Receiver #11
The Jaguars announced that Washington is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. Washington will miss the rest of this week, but is expected to return next week. It doesn’t seem like this is anything to panic about just yet. Based on the way Washington finished last season and everything we’ve heard from Jaguars camp this offseason, he has established himself as the top wide receiver in Jacksonville.

Marcus Mariota (knee) is questionable to return in Week 4 against the Colts.

Colts EDGE Laiatu Latu landed on Mariota’s right ankle while taking him down for a sack in the first quarter. Mariota was slow to get up and immediately made his way to the blue tent. He walked to the locker room after a brief stay in the tent. Seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis is under center for the Commanders.

NFL Network’s Mike Garfaolo reports DeVonta Smith (hamstring) is “at very best” questionable for Week 5 against the Jaguars.

Smith has already been ruled out for Week 4. The Eagles take on the Jags in London next week. It sounds like fantasy managers should be prepared to be without their start receiver for that contest as well. Dontayvion Wicks currently profiles as the team’s top wideout, but it’s hard to imagine the team not getting first-round rookie Makai Lemon more involved as well. Both players are solid FLEX options for Week 4.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Jadeveon Clowney (knee) is expected to play in Week 4 against the Cowboys.

Clowney hasn’t played since injuring his knee in Week 1. Though he isn’t expected to be a major factor in the Texans’ plans, Houston’s defense hasn’t been the shutdown unit that it was last year. They currently rank as a below-average team in EPA per play allowed. Clowney won’t change their fortunes overnight, but he will hopefully help them make incremental improvements.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tyjae Spears (ankle) is expected to play in Week 4 against the Ravens.

Spears played through the ankle issue last week and there was no indication during this week’s practice that he suffered any sort of setback. He is good to go for Week 4, though fantasy managers can’t count on him for much. He touched the ball just three times last week.

Bears placed Braxton Jones (knee) on injured reserve.

Jones injured his knee and was considered “week to week” going forward. The good news is that this means it won’t be season-ending IR, but the Bears will be without their starting left tackle for at least four games. Theo Benedet will start in his place this week. Now healthy, Ozzy Trapilo could take over that job in the coming weeks as well.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Monroe Freeling (concussion) will play in Week 4 against the Lions.

The Panthers entered the season down both of their starting tackles. They will also be without left guard Damien Lewis this week. Getting Freeling back is a big win for Bryce Young and the offense. Freeling has struggled in pass protection so far but is serviceable in the run game.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Dre Greenlaw (quad) is expected to play in Week 4 against the Broncos.

The 49ers are already banged up on defense with Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams ruled out on Friday. Greenlaw was listed as questionable after getting in a single limited practice. He has 22 combined tackles, 11 defensive stops, and one pressure this year.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Derrick Harmon (foot) “is expected to miss a few weeks.”

Rapoport noted that IR is an option, but the injury is not considered long-term. Harmon suffered the foot injury on Thursday against the Browns. He was carted to the locker room and was later spotted wearing a boot on the sidelines. The second-year tackle had 1.5 sacks in three games before leaving Week 4 early. His potential breakout campaign will now be put on hold for upwards of a month.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Sam LaPorta and the Lions “have broken off contract talks.”

Rapoport did note that the Lions could make another push to sign LaPorta later this year, so the door isn’t entirely closed. LaPorta is set to become a free agent next offseason. The team could, however, place the franchise tag on him. He has gotten off to a quiet start with 14 catches for 144 yards and one score. LaPorta is currently on pace for a career-low in yards per game. He would still have plenty of suitors in free agency, even if the counting stats don’t improve this year.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Baker Mayfield (thumb) is expected to miss “anywhere from three to six weeks.”

Previous reports put the timeline at 2-4 weeks, so it’s possible the injury is worse than initially expected. The good news is that testing revealed no ligament or tendon damage in Mayfield’s thumb. Per Schefter, Mayfield’s return will depend on how quickly he can grip the ball. That is typically the first step in throwing a football. For now, UDFA rookie Jalon Daniels will draw the start. He is worth a look in Superflex leagues but can’t be played in one-quarterback formats.
