Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving (glute) was limited on Wednesday.

Irving is on track to play in Week 4 against the Packers, but monitoring his practice participation is worthwhile. Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles said that Irving was “not on the team’s injury report” when asked by reporters why the team’s starting running back spent much of the fourth quarter on the sideline. So much for that. For now, expect him to play and be startable as an RB2, as usual.

The Bucs became the first team in over 50 years to not complete a pass for an entire game. In turn, Irving was able to rack up a career high in rush attempts. He then turned that into a career high in yards by averaging over six yards per carry. He could have posted even better numbers, but the Bucs put him on ice after his third-quarter touchdown. With the exception of one attempt from Irving, Gainwell saw 18 consecutive rush attempts to close the game. Gainwell wound up running for 140 yards on 25 attempts. To the Bucs’ credit, Gainwell was picking up chunk gain after chunk gain and Irving had already earned a massive workload. Irving failed to hit 100 yards on the ground in any of his first three games. He has since reached triple digits three times in his past four outings. Playing some of the best football of his career, Irving is pushing for an RB1 rank headed into Week 9 versus the Bears.

Irving was absent from Thursday’s sessions with an official “rest” designation, allowing fantasy managers to breath a collective sigh of relief after the veteran back has morphed into a borderline workhorse in recent games. Managers can likely continue forward with Irving in their starting lineups as an upside RB2 against the Falcons.

Gainwell missed Wednesday’s session with the hip issue. He will likely be listed as limited today, but that still puts him on track to play in Week 8 against the Falcons. Gainwell racked up 14 carries in a blowout win over the Panthers last week, but that hasn’t been the norm for him. Gainwell is averaging 6.4 touches per game and has topped out at three receptions in a week. He is buried in the RB4 ranks for Week 8.

Gainwell suffered the hip injury while logging a season-high 14 rush attempts in Week 7. The Bucs blew out the Panthers and racked up 49 carries as a team. Bucky Irving would be in line for more work on passing downs if Gainwell is out for Week 8. Sean Tucker could also see an uptick in snaps, though his normal role has very little overlap with what Gainwell does. Per usual, Irving looks like a high-end RB2 this week.
  • TB Running Back #7
The two-score day on the ground was somehow the first of Irving’s career. He led the way as the Bucs rolled up a ridiculous 258 yards rushing in a stunning road clobbering of the Panthers. That means Irving ceded plenty of work to Kenneth Gainwell and a little to Sean Tucker, but everyone got home as the Bucs simply dominated on the ground. Irving’s scores came from four and one yards out, meaning he had the goal-line advantage on Tucker while the game was still in doubt. It was a really strong performance, and a nice bounce-back effort after a rough Week 6. This figures to remain an up and down offense and rushing attack, but Irving has proven to be a high-end RB2 more weeks than not. That will include for Week 8 against the Falcons.

As is typically the case with ill players, Irving is good to go for this week’s game. He upgraded to full participation today after getting a limited session in on Thursday. The Buccaneers’ No. 1 running back has been a volatile producer this season, yet even with last week’s flop, he still totaled 21 touches. That type of workload keeps him firmly in the RB2 ranks.
  • TB Running Back #7
The Buccaneers’ No. 1 running back is on track to play in Week 7 against the Panthers. The offense is expected to be led by Baker Mayfield (thumb), who will play with a protective plate on his hand to prevent re-injury. Irving should be good to go this week and can be treated as a high-end RB2, as usual.

Players missing time because of an illness this early in the weekend almost always get cleared to play by Sunday. We expect no difference from Irving. Coming off his third 20-touch game of the year, Irving remains a high-end RB2 for his Week 7 date with the Panthers.
  • TB Running Back #7
Irving was bottled up on nearly every attempt, with the Steelers’ defensive front simply winning the battle in the trenches far too often. On the bright side, Irving out-carried Kenneth Gainwell 19-2 and saw three targets to Gainwell’s one. The role was there. The production was not. That role was also bolstered by the absence of Sean Tucker, who missed today’s game with a quad injury. Irving will remain in the RB2 mix for Week 7 versus the Panthers, but Tampa Bay’s grizzly offensive environment will prevent him from cracking the RB1 ranks.

Despite seeing just eight total carries this year, Tucker has two attempts inside the five compared to one for Bucky Irving. Though he isn’t leaving that many total carries behind, Tucker’s absence will still create some extra fantasy value for Irving, who is on the RB1/2 border for Week 6.

Chris Rodriguez rushed six times for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars’ Week 8 win over the Colts, adding a 17-yard reception.

Rodriguez was still getting out-snapped and out-produced by a percolating Bhayshul Tuten, but he managed to contribute a 28-yard score in a blowout victory. Rodriguez hit the hole then emerged to an abandoned mall of a Colts defense. With the Jaguars heading on the road for a short-week Thursday night date with a Ravens team operating without Lamar Jackson, expect lots of “get me out of here” Jags rushes in Baltimore, locking Rodriguez in as a Week 9 FLEX play.

Gunnar Helm caught 5-of-9 targets for 76 yards in the Titans’ Week 8 loss to the Bengals.

Helm saw career-highs in targets and receiving yards in a high-scoring game against the Bengals. He saw a few targets in the flats but was targeted downfield multiple times, catching two passes of at least 24 yards. Helm also caught a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. He is the Titans primary pass-catching tight end and saw heavy usage in a pass-heavy game script. Fantasy managers should not anticipate more game scripts like this for the Titans but Helm is a deep league streaming tight end option once the Titans come out of a Week 9 bye week.

Isaac TeSlaa did not have a catch in the Lions’ Week 8 win against the Vikings.

TeSlaa has been effectively phased out of the Detroit passing attack. he has one catch over his past three games, and against the Vikings on Sunday he ran 13 routes on 35 Lions drop backs and did not see a target. He can be dropped in most formats.

Brenton Strange caught 2-of-2 targets for 55 yards in the Jaguars’ Week 8 win over the Colts.

Strange had a 46-yard first quarter catch-and-run that went down as the Jags’ longest gain of the day in a 42-7 demolition of the pathetic Colts. Strange was really rumbling, looking out of gas at the end of his journey. Strange actually tied for the team lead in receiving yards, but that’s because Trevor Lawrence attempted all of 14 passes. Strange has done enough to keep himself in the TE2 mix, but he is not an ideal TE1 streamer heading into a short-week Thursday night date vs. a Ravens team that will be without Lamar Jackson.

Chase McLaughlin converted 3-of-3 field goal attempts in the Bucs’ Week 8 win over the Falcons.

McLaughlin also nailed his only PAT try. The Bucs forced a trio of turnovers in the first half. Their ensuring drives didn’t amount to much, but the field position alone allowed McLaughlin to put the ball through the uprights on two of them. With the Faclons accomplishing nothing on offense, the Bucs were comfortable taking the points throughout the contest, resulting in another strong fantasy outing for McLaughlin. He entered Week 8 as a top five fantasy option and will remain near the top of the kicker ranks for Week 9 versus the Bears.

Travis Hunter was held without a catch in the Jaguars’ Week 8 win over the Colts.

Hunter did add a five-yard “rush” on what sure looked like a pass attempt from Trevor Lawrence, but that’s neither her nor there. What is here is a rather predictable letdown after Hunter went into the Jaguars’ Week 7 bye with a pop-up effort in London. Although it was good to see Hunter contribute at all on offense, his role is too limited in an attack with too many mouths to feed to treat him as even a boom/bust WR4. That includes for Thursday’s short-week date with a Ravens team now missing starting quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Chimere Dike caught 5-of-6 targets for 71 yards and a touchdown in the Titans’ Week 8 loss to the Bengals.

Dike saw 58 snaps with Carnell Tate out, second among Titans wide receivers. He scored on an 11-yard reception in the fourth quarter. It was Dike’s first game with over three receptions and second game over one target this season. Dike is mostly utilized as a kick returner but is in line to see increased opportunities on offense if Tate misses additional time. For now, Dike should be off the fantasy radar heading into the Titans’ Week 9 bye.

Wan’Dale Robinson caught 6-of-7 targets for 57 yards, a touchdown and a fumble in the Titans’ Week 8 loss to the Bengals.

Robinson led Titans wide receivers in targets and snaps with Carnell Tate out, seeing seven targets. He was involved in his usual short-yardage role out of the slot, averaging 9.5 yards per reception with a 15-yard fourth quarter touchdown boosting his fantasy production. He was credited with a fumble on a screen pass that controversially could have been ruled an incomplete pass. Robinson is consistently a checkdown target for Cam Ward, with intermediate targets sparsely sprinkled in. Tate may return out of the Titans’ Week 9 bye, leaving Robinson to fend for fantasy production in the fantasy WR4 ranks.

Sione Vaki had 11 rushes for 65 yards in the Lions’ Week 8 win against the Vikings, adding one catch for five yards.

It was the first time this year Vaki has seen more than six carries. The Lions went ultra run-heavy in this one to combat the Vikings’ vexing blitz scheme, which led to 35 carries on the day. Vaki should be stashed in most formats in cae Jahmyr Gibbs misses any time in the coming weeks. Vaki would be a potential 20-touch weekly option in such a scenario.

Jakobi Meyers caught 2-of-3 targets for 24 yards in the Jaguars’ Week 8 win over the Colts.

Meyers wasn’t the only Jags pass catcher to post an empty box score in a 42-7 obliteration where Trevor Lawrence attempted only 14 passes, though he’s now been held to two or fewer receptions in 4-of-7 games. For a supposed “floor” player, that is not going to cut it, especially since Meyers is not the ceiling threat in this offense. With volume likely to remain in short supply for Thursday’s short-week tilt with the Lamar Jackson-less Ravens, Meyers is not a compelling WR3 for Week 9.
