Jaylen Waddle is practicing in full for Week 4 against the 49ers.

Waddle was spotted in a boot after Week 3’s win over the Rams. DNVR’s Zac Stevens reported at the time that he was fine and can comfortably take a victory lap now that Payton has said he practiced in full. Waddle posted a dud in Week 3 with two catches for 10 yards, but he ripped off 138 yards the week before that. The production might come in peaks and valleys, but fantasy managers should hold the line and treat him like a WR2 for a potential shootout with the 49ers this week.

Waddle was spotted in a walking boot after the Broncos’ Sunday night win, prompting speculation over his status. Jane reports that Waddle is “fine” while beat reporter Zac Stevens said a source told him “there’s nothing wrong” with the 27-year-old wideout. The boot certainly could have been a precautionary measure but we will wait for Wednesday’s practice report to find out if Waddle is truly dealing with an injury.

Waddle would also add a successful two-point reception in the third quarter to give him a slight boost in counting stats, although the 6.4-point effort left fantasy managers in desperate need of better production from their fourth-round selection in fantasy drafts. Waddle has now sandwiched poor fantasy outings with one usable game through three weeks. Fantasy managers are likely left to ride out the struggles of the Denver offense in hopes of greener pastures, which could come in a Week 4 showdown with the 49ers. Treat Waddle as an upside WR3, at present.
  • DEN Wide Receiver #17
Waddle was targeted on an obscene 42 percent of his pass routes against the Jaguars. He came up a yard short of a long touchdown in the first half and easily led all Denver pass catchers with ten looks from Bo Nix. Broncos OC Davis Webb’s insistence on force feeding Waddle makes the wideout too big to fail in the balanced Denver offense. Despite a letdown of a Week 1 performance against KC, Waddle should be locked into lineups until further notice. He’ll be a top-20 player in Week 3 against the Rams.

Payton was asked if their offseason acquisition, Waddle, was going to be more involved this week than he was in Week 1. Per Payton, they intended to get Waddle more involved, but acknowledged that the team needs to be “more deliberate” about getting him involved, “without forcing it.” The last-second qualifier is a tad unsettling, but we do expect the Broncos to at least look Waddle’s way early, in order to assuage usage concerns. He is a WR2 against the Jaguars this week.

Nix during his postgame presser defended offensive play caller Davis Webb, who took over for head coach Sean Payton this offseason. “The players did not make it easy on [Webb] today,” said Nix, who completed 17-of-28 passes for 131 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Monday night’s loss to Kansas City. “Pretty pitiful, actually.” Denver had the league’s second lowest drop back EPA of Week 1; only the Falcons were worse. Nix, meanwhile, ranked 28th out of 32 qualifying QBs in Week 1 accuracy. “We called exactly what we prepared for and what we wanted to get to and we just didn’t execute,” Nix said. “Then we were behind.” Webb and the Broncos will look to bounce back in Week 2 against a tough Jaguars defense.

The entire Denver offense struggled to get anything going on a night they managed only 176 yards of total offense, clearly no match for Steve Spagnuolo’s Kansas City defense. Most troubling was the fact that this was the first time new offensive coordinator Davis Webb was calling plays after head coach Sean Payton announced this offseason that he would be relinquishing those duties on game days. It is unclear how long the Broncos will stick with that setup if the offense continues to struggle as it did against the Chiefs, particularly considering the team holds the honor of having the most difficult schedule during the first six weeks of the season. Waddle will look to return to his status as an upside-WR2 when the Broncos host the Jaguars in Week 2.
  • DEN Quarterback #10
Nix looked mobile and eager to chuck it downfield. He even had a few overthrows, which we suppose is a good thing for a quarterback who spent the offseason rehabbing an ankle injury. The Broncos quarterback linked up with new WR Jaylen Waddle for a 35-yard gain down the seam and targeted WR Courtland Sutton a couple of times along the sideline. He found tonight’s starting RB RJ Harvey speeding down the right side of the field on a wheel route, and linked up with the second-year running back for a 21-yard touchdown to conclude the first drive. New OC Davis Webb regularly dialed up play action, which is great for fantasy purposes. Nix looks like a low-end QB1.

Waddle missed an extended amount of time due to what was being classified as a muscle strain by head coach Sean Payton. The veteran receiver officially returned to the practice field on Monday, with Payton saying after practice that Waddle was “coming along really well.” We’ll see how things go for Waddle in the coming days, but hopefully this issue is behind him. Waddle is expected to play a big role in the Broncos’ passing game this season and profiles as a solid WR2.

Waddle has been working through a muscle strain, per head coach Sean Payton, since last week. It was reported on Thursday that he would return within 4-5 days, so we’re nearing the point where we would expect to see him on the field. He was seen working off to the side during Saturday’s practice, so hopefully another day or two of rest will be enough for him to return. Waddle is expected to be the top pass-catcher for the Broncos this season and was having a nice camp before going down.

That’s exactly the news fantasy managers were hoping to see after Waddle experienced “some muscle tightness” earlier in the week, prompting his time away from practice. The veteran free agent addition worked to the side Saturday and also shed the leg sleeve he had been seen to be wearing the previous two days, running with no changes in gait. Fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief as Waddle enters the year as the top option through the air for a dangerous Broncos team.

Justin Jefferson (ankle) will not play in Minnesota’s Week 4 game against the Dolphins.

He didn’t practice at any point this week despite optimistic words from Kevin O’Connell and company. If they were going to rest him against one team, the lowly Dolphins make sense. Jordan Addison will get a bump and Jauan Jennings could be a FLEX option against Miami.

Keenan Allen (rest/groin) is questionable for Week 4 against the Commanders.

This one went under the radar. Allen was limited on Wednesday with a “rest” designation. He remained limited on Thursday, but the Colts tacked a groin injury next to his name while maintaining the “rest” designation and hope for a Week 4 appearance along the way. Allen was downgraded on Friday, unable to practice, and should be considered truly questionable to face the Commanders this week. Were he to sit, No. 1 wide receiver Josh Downs would get a helpful target share boost.

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said it’s still not “the right time” for James Conner (ankle) to return.

Same goes for TE Tip Reiman (ankle). LaFleur said he does not check in with the medical staff about them “on the daily,” but he “knows they’re doing well.” Neither player needs to be rostered in 12-team formats. Conner may be fantasy-relevant later in the year, but a lot would have to go wrong beforehand for that to be the case.

49ers principal owner Jed York has been suspended for six games and fined $500,000 for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

York offered the following statement: “To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry. This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility.” This wouldn’t appear to have any on-field impact for the 49ers. York will be able to attend games again starting in Week 10.

Bills WR DJ Moore (shoulder) is not on Buffalo’s final Week 4 injury report.

He’ll be good to go against the Christian Gonzalez-less Patriots. Moore is evidently still dealing with some soreness as he practiced in a non-contact jersey at points this week, but he’ll be a worthy WR2 in an elevated matchup.

Bills coach Joe Brady said WR Keon Coleman (ankle) “should be good to play” for Buffalo’s Week 4 game against the Patriots.

Coleman was limited on Thursday after a Wednesday DNP and apparently will avoid a questionable tag. He was questionable last week and played through the injury, though he doesn’t draw enough targets to be fantasy-relevant outside of the deepest leagues at this point.

Bills coach Joe Brady said CB Christian Benford (toe) is questionable for Buffalo’s Week 4 game against the Patriots.

Despite the questionable listing, Benford did not appear in the media portion of practice on Friday. At best, he’ll be listed as limited later today. Benford seems to be on the pessimistic side of questionable for Week 4.

Ravens DL Trey Hendrickson (finger) underwent surgery and will not play in Baltimore’s Week 4 game against the Titans.

Jesse Minter announced the news and did not provide a timetable for a return. Hendrickson had played through the ailment in Weeks 2 and 3. It’s plausible that he’s back in Week 5 assuming this wasn’t a major procedure, and if he was going to miss one game, the Titans game would be the one to miss.

Justin Jefferson (ankle) was not spotted at Friday’s practice.

Jefferson has not practiced this week and will likely be ruled out for Week 4’s game in the near future. While his injury is not believed to be serious, the Vikings would likely prefer not to risk further injury in a home game against the Dolphins that they can win without him. We’ll check back in with an update once head coach Kevin O’Connell has a chance to speak with media, but there’s a good chance Jordan Addison and Jauan Jennings will serve as the Vikings’ top two receivers this week.

Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez (shoulder) will not play in New England’s Week 4 game against the Bills.

Gonzalez did not practice at any point this week after popping up on the injury report Wednesday; his status seems to be in doubt for Week 5 at this point as well. The Patriots also ruled out DT Christian Barmore. They’ll be without their best coverage player against the Bills, elevating the matchup for D.J. Moore.
