Jaylen Wright rushed five times for seven yards in the Dolphins’ Week 4 loss to the Vikings.

The best thing we can say about Wright’s day is that he got the start. The Dolphins kept him out there for the first drive, giving him a chance to keep his position, but he was unable to do so. Ollie Gordon outplayed him as the game progressed, rushing nine times for 100 yards and one touchdown, while Wright was relegated to unproductive offensive snaps and five kick returns for 97 yards. Wright is a zero-floor FLEX against the Bengals next week.
Shanahan ‘in his bag’ to keep 49ers undefeated
Mike Florio and Chris Simms praise Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers’ ability to never fold while working through a plethora of injuries, but question Denver’s “spuddering” offense.

Dolphins RB Ollie Gordon is rotating in behind Wright, confirming Wright is the team’s current starter. That said, the Dolphins could still split the backfield workload almost evenly. We won’t know what the plan is until the game is underway. For now, Wright should be viewed as the slightly safer FLEX, though both running backs could get bottled up by the Vikings’ defense today.
  • MIA Running Back #5
Wright sits atop the Dolphins’ depth chart with De’Von Achane (knee) done for the year. He will likely split touches with new No. 2 running back Ollie Gordon in a very difficult matchup against the Vikings this week. Both players are worth rostering, but they are shaky FLEX starters this week.
  • MIA Running Back #5
Wright was a full participant in Thursday’s and Friday’s practices, which is a good sign for his Week 4 availability. If he doesn’t draw a questionable tag later in the day, we’ll go ahead and assume that the third-year back will be on the field when the Dolphins visit the Vikings. Wright should be in line for a decent day as far as volume is concerned, but it’s hard to invest much hope in him or Ollie Gordon, who will split work with De’Von Achane (knee) out for the remainder of the season. It’s hard to know how the touches could be distributed here, but fantasy managers shouldn’t be rushing to put either back in their lineups against a stout Vikings defense.
  • MIA Running Back #5
Wright should be rostered in 12-team leagues. He is now on track to play in Week 4 against the Vikings and is still listed ahead of RB Ollie Gordon on the Dolphins’ depth chart. The Vikings’ defense could bottle up this running back, but things might get a tad easier in Week 5 against the Bengals.
  • MIA Running Back #5
Wright and RB Ollie Gordon are expected to split backfield touches moving forward, though this could be a fluid situation if one running back simply outplays the other. Gordon profiles as a burly grinder, while Wright may offer more big-play potential. It sounds like Wright has a strong chance of playing in Week 4 against the Vikings.
  • MIA Running Back #5
Wright was inactive with his foot injury last week against Kansas City. De’Von Achane went down with a season-ending ACL injury and Ollie Gordon took over as the team’s workhorse with no other running back on the active roster. Dolphins coaches have implied that both Gordon and Wright will get work in the Miami backfield with Achane out. An even backfield split would make both Wright and Gordon nothing more than deep-league flex plays.

In other words, expect a committee. Ollie Gordon remains the most likely back to chair the committee in the short-term as he’s actually healthy while Jaylen Wright missed last week’s game and has just seven snaps this year in two games while active to Gordon’s 15 in the first two weeks. This all feels a little desperate given how poor the Dolphins have looked, but volume at running back is volume at running back in a year where many RB2 stabs have disappointed early.
  • MIA Running Back #28
It felt like things were trending in this direction when head coach Jeff Hafley said after the game that he was not “optimistic” about Achane’s injury, but now the worst has confirmed. The 0-3 Dolphins will now be without their best playmaker for the remainder of the season, creating yet another challenge for an offense that ranks 31st in points per game (12.0 PPG) and 26th in yards per game (290.7 YPG) through the first three weeks of the season. Ollie Gordon will become a priority add off of waivers this week after he rushed for 17-41-1 in place of Achane, but his upside will be limited in what is one of the worst offenses in the league. Third-year vet Jaylen Wright could also be worth a stash. Wright missed Week 3’s game with a stringer/foot injury.

Gordon entered this afternoon with only three touches all season, but was pressed into every-down duty after De’Von Achane suffered a potentially serious knee injury on the game’s opening series. Fellow backup Jaylen Wright was inactive with a foot issue. Gordon mostly held up well, though he himself briefly went into the locker room with cramping issues. He returned after getting an IV. With Achane evidently staring at a long absence, Gordon is a priority waivers add, though he and Wright will undoubtedly form a committee for this undermanned offense. The question is who gets the strong side. It wouldn’t be surprising if Wright assumed primary early-down status with Gordon changing the pace. That would require Wright being healthy, of course. We will keep you updated.

The team is still gathering information on Achane’s knee injury, but the early indications are not good. The Dolphins’ star player seemingly twisted his left knee while having his jersey pulled from behind by a Chiefs defender. Achane may be out for an extended period. Dolphins backup RB Jaylen Wright (foot/stinger) was inactive today, and fellow backup RB Ollie Gordon missed time in-game due to cramping.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports 49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk is believed to have suffered a sprained knee in Week 4’s win over the Broncos.

This would be very good news for Juszczyk, as the injury appeared far worse in real time. According to Rap, the team believes Juszczyk’s ACL is believed to be intact, but he will undergo an MRI to confirm. The veteran fullback is still likely looking at a multi-week absence, which could impact Christian McCaffrey’s effectiveness in the running game, but it sounds like he avoided the worst here.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Patrick Surtain’s ankle injury is not believed to be season-ending.

According to Rapoport, there are no longer any concerns that this is an Achilles injury for Surtain, who left Week 4’s game against the 49ers with a non-contact injury. Surtain could be looking at a multi-week absence and will undergo an MRI soon to confirm the severity of his injury, but it sounds like he avoided anything too serious. In addition to Surtain, the Broncos are also evaluating the status of CB Riley Moss, who is dealing with a rib injury.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is “weeks away from return.”

The Saints’ offense has managed just fine without Tyson, but it doesn’t sound like it will get a boost from the rookie first-rounder any time soon. According to Schefter, Tyson is “making progress and feeling good,” but the earliest we may see him is Week 7. That said, due to the Saints playing Week 7 in Paris, Schefter also notes that “the most logical” return date for Tyson could be Week 9 after the team’s bye week. Fantasy managers stashing Tyson will need to continue doing so for the next several weeks, and even when he’s active, it could take a few games for him to see a full assortment of snaps. We can expect Devaughn Vele to continue operating as the Saints’ WR2 behind Chris Olave until Tyson returns.

George Holani rushed seven times for 18 yards in the Seahawks Week 4 win over the Chargers, adding one reception for two additional yards.

In the first week without Jadarian Price, Holani operated as a lightly used backup behind Emanuel Wilson, who rushed for 21-81-1, and added another 3-39-1 through the air on four targets. Any hope that Holani could see an increased workload sans Price needs to be put on hold for now. He can be left on fantasy benches in Week 5 when the Seahawks host the 49ers.

Christian McCaffrey had 15 rushes for 52 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers’ Week 4 win against the Broncos, adding three catches for 18 yards.

Denver’s defense focused on slowing down McCaffrey and the Niners’ run game. That forced Brock Purdy and the offense into a more pass-heavy approach. CMC surprisingly was not all that involved in the passing attack against a Broncos defense that has been generous to pass catchers out of the backfield this season. He saved his fantasy day with a goal line plunge in the second half. Kaelon Black, meanwhile, saw six carries on the day. McCaffrey will be a top-5 option in Week 5 against the Seahawks.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Lamar Jackson will have an MRI on his ankle Monday.

It was reported after Sunday’s win over the Titans that Jackson was “believed to be day-to-day” after he left the game with what appeared to be a relatively minor ankle injury. Jackson was spotted in a walking boot, which has raised a bit more concern for his Week 5 availability, but hopefully the MRI doesn’t reveal anything too severe. Jackson and the Ravens are set to take on the Falcons on Sunday night, which could make for a difficult situation for fantasy managers. We’ll surely receive countless updates on his status throughout the week, but fantasy managers should have a backup plan in place in the event he enters the weekend with a questionable designation. If he’s unable to play, Tyler Huntley would draw his first start of the season.

John Metchie caught 3-of-5 targets for 37 yards in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

Metchie operated as the WR2 in the absence of both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette but was unable to return any fantasy utility on a night second-year receiver Tetairoa McMillan set new career highs in both receptions and yardage. Fantasy managers that were coaxed into adding Metchie through the injuries in Carolina can safely return him to the waiver from whence he came.

Darren Waller caught 3-of-6 targets for 36 yards in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

Waller saw minimal involvement as quarterback Bryce Young leaned into his top option through the air, feeding Tetairoa McMillan 16 targets on 41 pass attempts in the absence of both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette. Fantasy managers that scooped Waller off of waivers following his two-touchdown game in Week 2 are surely left disappointed in the recent returns, making Waller a potential drop candidate as the Panthers head to their bye.

Tetairoa McMillan caught 14-of-16 targets for 192 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions.

McMillan set career highs in both receptions and yardage in the first half with nine catches for 147 yards before the break. He operated as the clear alpha in a pass attack without both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, routinely dusting everyone the Lions had at their disposal in an injury-ravaged secondary. While the receiving line surely turns heads, fantasy managers were left even more ecstatic about the way in which he was utilized, with the second-year receiver catching six passes for 94 yards and both touchdowns while aligned in the slot. Offensive coordinator Brad Idzik is providing structure, sequencing, and situational tendencies unlike anything fans had grown accustomed to when head coach Dave Canales was helming the offense, resulting in quarterback Bryce Young leading the league in passing while averaging more than 30 points per game through the first month of play. McMillan’s ceiling remains sky-high as a legitimate WR1 when the Panthers square off against the Eagles fin Week 6 following their bye.

Chuba Hubbard rushed 20 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers’ Week 4 win over the Lions, adding seven yards on one reception.

Hubbard’s successes on the ground allowed the Panthers to remain balanced on a night they were without two of their top three wide receivers due to the absences of Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, cashing in on two scores from 15 and two yards out. Hubbard appears to be locked into an RB1 workload in the absence of Jonathan Brooks, who will be out for 6-8 weeks after undergoing core muscle surgery. His 26 opportunities dwarfed the six of current backup AJ Dillon, the latter of whom gained just seven total yards on six touches. Fantasy managers can start Hubbard with confidence when the team returns from their bye to face the Eagles in Week 6.
