Dak Prescott completed 24-of-42 passes for 316 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the Cowboys’ 24-16, Week 5 loss to the Buccaneers.

The two interceptions on Dak’s ledger were both in-and-out of his receivers’ hands, the second of which hit tight end Jake Ferguson in the face mask to allow the Buccaneers to ice the game in the fourth quarter. The first “pick” bounced off the hands of Ryan Flournoy to allow the Buccaneers to establish an 11-point lead at the beginning of the third quarter, a deficit the Cowboys would be unable to overcome. That said, Prescott wasn’t at all at his sharpest, missing numerous throws wide in addition to a few badly under-thrown balls in the second half. To make matters worse, alpha wide receiver CeeDee Lamb departed the game in the fourth quarter with a quad injury. The Cowboys fall to 2-3 and find themselves looking up at both the Giants and Eagles ahead of a Week 6 meeting with the Packers at Lambeau. Prescott returns to QB1 status in what has become a soft matchup, pending the health of Lamb.
Defense costs Cowboys again vs. UDFA QB Daniels
Dan Patrick recaps the TNF action that saw the Buccaneers beat the Cowboys in Arlington, where the offense sputtered and shoddy defense cost the home team once again while facing UDFA rookie QB Jalon Daniels.

He had just 87 passing yards at halftime, but the Cowboys turned up in a major way in the second half by peppering CeeDee Lamb with targets and getting George Pickens matched on Kamari Lassiter to their benefit. Prescott was surgical against the blitz and led a game-winning drive after C.J. Stroud briefly put the Texans up 30-27, leading the Cowboys 74 yards in 1:43 by brutalizing the Texans’ zone coverage. Dak should remain in the QB1 ranks next week against the woeful Buccaneers on Thursday.

Dak and the Cowboys came out with a run-heavy approach early, but Prescott was efficient through the air when given the chance. He was able to get both CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens involved in this one, with the two receivers combining for 14 receptions for 194 yards on the day. Prescott’s lone touchdown pass came on a 19-yard strike to Jake Ferguson in the third quarter to cut the Ravens’ lead to 24-21, but on the Cowboys’ final drive in the fourth quarter, he would go 3-of-6 passing for 36 yards while adding another nine yards on the ground to help set up a game-tying field goal by Brandon Aubrey. A literal last-second field goal moments later would give the Ravens the win, but Prescott and the Cowboys have now gone for 30-plus points in back-to-back weeks. He’ll be a fringe QB1/QB2 in next week’s game against the Texans.

Dak and the Cowboys faced little resistance from the Commanders’ defense in this one. The Cowboys came out firing from the start, as Prescott orchestrated a 10-play, 66-yard opening drive that ended with a three-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, who had three receptions on the drive. Prescott threw his second touchdown of the game to Jake Ferguson, who broke free in the end zone for a 10-yard score, and in the third quarter, the two connected again for a 12-yard score. Dak found Lamb for a 24-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to set the Cowboys’ franchise record for career touchdown passes (249), putting the finishing touches on what was an impressive day. Prescott will be a fringe QB1/QB2 in next week’s game against the Ravens in Rio De Janeiro.

A first half in which Prescott was victimized by drops and penalties from his supporting cast was completely overshadowed by a defensive performance that saw the Giants go 9-of-10 on third down and amass 394 yards of total offense. The Cowboys saw the ball only twice in the second half, scoring touchdowns on both drives, but it was ultimately not enough as they fell to 0-1 for the second consecutive season. Prescott’s lone interception came on a prayer ball down the sideline on third down at the end of the first half, eventually leading to a go-ahead touchdown for the Giants as they took a 14-7 deficit into the break, one they would not overcome. The Cowboys now turn the page to Week 2 as they prepare to host another division opponent in the Commanders in what has quickly become a near must-win game for both teams. Prescott will look to return to the QB1 ranks in a plus matchup.
  • Archer cites multiple sources on this one. Sorsby’s gambling issues were reportedly not enough to dissuade the Cowboys from considering him as a potential long-term replacement for QB Dak Prescott, who turns 33 next week and is signed through 2028. In the end, the NFL declined to hold a supplemental draft this year, preventing the Cowboys from potentially drafting him at “a lower-than-expected price.” Perhaps they will revisit the idea next offseason.

Solak’s prediction was among his bold predictions for the 2026 NFL season. Prescott having a shot at 5,000 yards, Solak said, would hinge on the Cowboys remaining a fast-paced offense in 2026. Last season the Cowboys led the league in play clock remaining at the snap and offensive plays per game, leading to 600 passes for Dak — a career high. The wideout duo of George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb won’t hurt matters for Prescott, who has eclipsed 4,500 passing yards three times in his NFL career. Pickens’ downfield ability was reflected in Prescott finishing sixth in deep ball accuracy last season. “The volume will be there for Prescott to not just lead the league in passing in 2026 but to once again challenge for the 5,000-yard milestone,” Solak said. Quarterbacks have thrown for more than 5,000 yards just 14 times in league history.

Schottenheimer said it’s “nothing to be concerned about.” We mostly agree, but every once in a while these situations become more serious or linger for a bit. Prescott figures to be a top-15 fantasy quarterback this year, though he won’t quite have the game scripts he had last year if Dallas’ defense can improve from “abysmal” to “regular bad” unit.

The Cowboys will play host to their division rival, the Eagles, in front of a national audience this Thanksgiving. The Cowboys downed the Kansas City Chiefs in a high-scoring 31-28 affair last season, and have won their last four Thanksgiving Day contests. The league has now announced two Cowboys games ahead of its full schedule release, as they are also set to take on the Giants on Sunday Night Football in Week 1.
  • NYG Quarterback #6
We are once again waiting all day for a Sunday night. With the schedule release week officially upon us, the league announced on Monday that the Giants would kick off the season hosting the Cowboys for Week 1 of SNF. The John Harbaugh-led Giants will put their offseason rebuild on display on national television against a Cowboys team that finished 7-9-1 last season, largely due to their struggles on the defensive side of the ball. Both teams are hoping to show enough improvement to keep pace with the Eagles, who have finished first in the division two of the last three years.
  • The Cowboys possess the 12th and 20th overall selections. They field an elite offense and a defense that could use more personnel upgrades, having allowed the most points in the NFL last season. The front office traded for EDGE Rashan Gary, and signed S Jalen Thompson and DT Otito Ogbonnia thus far this offseason, but the unit still has more needs. Regardless, Schottenheimer said that “if the best player on the board is clearly an offensive player, then we’ll certainly discuss that, and more than likely” draft that player, knowing Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The Cowboys’ offense is already set up for fantasy success, but adding another capable offensive lineman and/or another pass catcher can only help QB Dak Prescott put up points.

Mike Evans (ribs) is not on the final injury report and will play in Week 5 against the Seahawks.

The 49ers’ star wide receiver is good to go for his team’s Week 5 game against a divisional rival. A hard hit to the midsection could change his day, but Evans is extremely tough and should be expected to handle his normal workload. He is a weekly WR2, operating as San Francisco’s passing game focal point.

49ers ruled out Nick Bosa (knee/calf) for Week 5 against the Seahawks.

The 49ers will be without Bosa, FB Kyle Juszczyk (knee), DL James Thompson Jr. (ankle) and S Marques Sigle (ankle) for this divisional showdown, making life a little easier on their opponent.

49ers DL Mykel Williams (knee) is questionable for Week 5 against the Seahawks

Williams is officially listed as questionable, though he is expected to take the field for the first time since tearing his ACL in Week 9, during this 2025 rookie season. His return could not have come soon enough. The 49ers’ defensive line has been hit hard by injuries this year. The 49ers correspondingly released DL Ogbo Okoronkwo to make room on the active roster.

Broncos signed WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey off their own practice squad.

Every year it somehow comes to this. Humphrey will replace Pat Bryant (IR/ankle) on the 53-man roster. We expect Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims will have more opportunities than Humphrey to actually catch the ball.

Seahawks DT Leonard Williams (ankle)is not on the final injury report and will play in Week 5 against the 49ers.

The Seahawks will have their stud interior defender on hand against the division-rival 49ers. They will be without backup CB Julian Neal (hamstring), who suffered an injury in practice.

Cardinals DT Walter Nolen (calf) is questionable for Arizona’s Week 5 game against the Lions.

Nolen was limited in back-to-back practices after popping up with the calf listing on Thursday. He’s played 319 snaps in 21 career opportunities so far.

Seahawks RB George Holani (ribs/knee) is questionable to play in Week 5 against the 49ers.

Holani was nursing a ribs injury on Wednesday and Thursday, but he is now listed with a knee injury as well. This is concerning. He clearly picked up a new injury during the practice week. Velus Jones is the current RB3. Jones is not viable as a FLEX starter if Holani sits, but Emanuel Wilson should take on an RB2-worthy workload regardless.

Jeremiyah Love (ankle) is not on Arizona’s final Week 5 injury report.

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said “It’s a maintenance thing with ankles, you guys see the way he cuts...I don’t know what he’s totally feeling, only he knows...but he’s doing good.” Great, not cryptic at all, Mike. Love is a reasonable low-end RB2 if his ankles decide he wants to play his full allotment of the 50/50 split against the Lions in Week 5.

Trevor Penning (concussion) won’t play in Los Angeles’ Week 5 game against the Broncos.

We’re assuming the Chargers are going to sign some offensive linemen to the 53-man roster, but as things currently stand it looks like four rookies will start next to Cole Strange. And we don’t even know which four, if you really want to see how deep this despair goes.

Trey Lance (groin) is doubtful for Los Angeles’ Week 5 game against the Broncos.

The rarely-seen doubtful tag. Only the Chargers could discover a way for their backup quarterback to get it. DJ Uiagalelei could backup Justin Herbert this week.
