Chuba Hubbard rushed 28 times for 120 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers’ Week 6 win over the Eagles.

It wasn’t easy for Hubbard, who didn’t have many runs over 10 yards, but he ran hard, broke tackles, and was able to find the end zone in the fourth quarter for a short touchdown run. Still, the Panthers did have some issues running the ball up the gut against the Eagles and continued to do it, rather than try to get Hubbard going on the edge. Trevor Etienne was the only other running back to have a carry in this game, and he had just one rush, so this backfield belongs entirely to Hubbard, which is tremendous for his fantasy value.

Hubbard’s successes on the ground allowed the Panthers to remain balanced on a night they were without two of their top three wide receivers due to the absences of Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, cashing in on two scores from 15 and two yards out. Hubbard appears to be locked into an RB1 workload in the absence of Jonathan Brooks, who will be out for 6-8 weeks after undergoing core muscle surgery. His 26 opportunities dwarfed the six of current backup AJ Dillon, the latter of whom gained just seven total yards on six touches. Fantasy managers can start Hubbard with confidence when the team returns from their bye to face the Eagles in Week 6.
  • CAR Running Back #30
With Jonathon Brooks on injured reserve, Hubbard’s 23 touches were nine more than he handled in Week 2, and 10 more than Week 1. Although he ceded a smattering of snaps to new backup AJ Dillon, he was a near every-down player in this road loss. Hubbard lacks high-end fantasy upside, but his floor right now is very much that of a locked-in RB2. That will be especially true for matchups like next week’s date with the defensively-challenged Lions.
  • FA Running Back #30
Carolina is in need of some backfield reinforcements after losing Jonathon Brooks to a core injury that will leave him sidelined for at least six weeks. AJ Dillon is set to fill in for Brooks while Chub Hubbard presumably continues as the team’s lead back. Ekeler, 31, who hasn’t played since injuring his Achilles last September, could be an emergency running back if Hubbard or Dillon go down with injuries in the coming weeks. First he’ll need to make the squad.
  • CAR Running Back #30
Hubbard operated as the Panthers’ unquestioned RB1, out-carrying Jonathon Brooks 12-5. He got on the board early with a touchdown catch near the goal line. It was his second touchdown grab of the year and his third time finding the end zone in total. Brooks also left the game early with a groin injury and his status for Week 3 is up in the air. Hubbard was already going to project for RB2 numbers with Brooks in the middle. He will push to the middle of the RB2 pack if Brooks is out versus the Browns.
  • CAR Running Back #30
Hubbard was the clearcut lead back for the run-heavy Carolina offense. Jonathon Brooks saw five touches on the day, and ran six pass routes for 29 routes for Hubbard, who was the Panthers’ primary red zone back throughout the game. For now Hubbard’s role in the run-first Panthers offense seems secure while the team eases Brooks into action. That could change at some point this season. Hubbard will be a locked-in RB2 option next week against a middling Falcons defense.
  • CAR Running Back #25
In his first regular season action, Brooks played well behind lead back Chuba Hubbard, who finished the day with ten carries and three receptions. The highlight of Brooks’ day came on a sideline throw from Bryce Young that went for 48 yards. Brooks, coming off multiple major knee injuries, showed impressive burst and speed on the catch and run. That Hubbard was the team’s primary option inside the ten yard line is bad news for Brooks’ touchdown upside in the Carolina offense. For now he profiles as a bench stash in case Hubbard misses time this season.
  • CAR Running Back #25
We’ll have a better sense of Brooks’ Week 1 availability in a few hours when the Panthers release their final injury report for the week, but the third-year back logged limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday and is trending in the right direction for Sunday’s game against the Bears. If he’s active, Brooks is expected to split touches with Chuba Hubbard, which could put a hard cap on both players’ upside in the season-opener.
  • CAR Running Back #25
Now we know what Brooks has been dealing with for the past week or so. Beginning the week with a limited session is a good sign regarding his Week 1 availability, but obviously we hope to see him practice fully as soon as possible, given his extensive injury history. He could end up rotating in behind RB Chuba Hubbard if active.

Brooks has now worked to the side in two straight practices and Panthers coaches are being cagy about his ailment. It’s not a great develop less than two weeks ahead of Carolina’s season opener. Chub Hubbard, meanwhile, is back at practice after being sidelined with a hamstring injury for a couple weeks. Brooks’ practice status will be very much worth monitoring in the coming days. He appears to be nothing more than a touchdown-dependent flex for right now.

The team’s plan, per Graziano, is for Hubbard and Jonathon Brooks to split carries this season. That comes as little surprise. “If Hubbard stays healthy, he’s the one in whom they’ve built up more trust, so I’d expect him to be the one the Panthers lean on to try to grind out games when they have the lead,” Graziano said. “The split should be pretty close, but it would not be a surprise at all to get to the end of the season and see that Hubbard got the majority of the work.” Brooks on Tuesday practiced to the side while Hubbard (hamstring) practiced in full. It’s a concerning situation for those who have gone in on Brooks as Carolina’s lead back.

Broncos coach Sean Payton said he has not considered removing Bo Nix from the starting job.

“He is going to become the byproduct of all the finer things that get improved. The improved play from our offensive line; the more efficient we are relative to downs; running the football. That’s our job as coaches here,” Payton said. Nix has been one of the worst quarterbacks in the league through six starts and Jay Glazer passed along word yesterday that Payton changed the terminology that OC Davis Webb had put in this offseason back to what it was last season, which apparently did not help Nix out. He’ll be hard to trust even with a slapdash Cardinals defense on tap for Week 7.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Elijah Arroyo (shoulder) is expected to miss time and it “could be an extended absence.”

Arroyo’s career hasn’t really got off the ground with AJ Barner as the obvious No. 1 in the Seahawks tight end room. The 50th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft has just two targets this year and hasn’t been a fantasy factor yet.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Baker Mayfield (thumb) is “supposed to practice Wednesday.”

Bowles has already said that the team is preparing as if Jalon Daniels will start in Week 7, but the team will be evaluating Mayfield to see how he is progressing in his recovery from a dislocated thumb. Mayfield reportedly pushed to play last week after throwing on Monday, but his thumb swelled up, which factored into the decision to sit him in Week 6’s loss to the Steelers. Given Bowles’ comments about the team’s plans entering the week, it sounds like Mayfield is at risk of missing at least one more game, but we’ll see how his hand responds when he gets on the field on Wednesday.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Sauce Gardner is considered week-to-week after suffering a calf strain in Week 6’s loss to the Titans.

According to Rapoport, an MRI revealed a mild calf strain for Gardner, who is expected to be week-to-week with the injury. While he is expected to miss some time, Rapoport also notes that Gardner is not expected to miss “an extended period,” which suggests he won’t be placed on injured reserve. Gardner sounds like a virtual lock to miss Week 7’s game against the Vikings, so we’ll see if a week away gives him enough time to be ready for Week 8’s game against the Jaguars. Gardner has totaled 17 tackles and four pass breakups for the Colts this season while earning a PFF coverage grade of 62.6.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said the team is planning as if Jalon Daniels will start in Week 7 against the Panthers.

Bowles said this week will be an important evaluation week for Baker Mayfield, who is still rehabbing a dislocated thumb that has sidelined him since Week 3. Daniels hasn’t been overly impressive in his three starts this season, throwing for 501 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions while also taking nine sacks. That said, he did manage to pull off a win over the Cowboys in Week 5 and had the Buccaneers in position to beat the Steelers in Week 6 before Pittsburgh erupted for 16 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. We’ll see how things unfold throughout the week, but it sounds like Mayfield is at least one week away from returning. Daniels would be on the fantasy radar as a low-end QB2 if he gets the start against Carolina.

Dan Patrick of The Dan Patrick Show said a source familiar with the Colts’ GM situation told him the team’s “first call will be/has been to Peyton Manning.”

Patrick isn’t a reporter we go to often here, but he’s a well-connected veteran in the industry. According to Patrick, his source said the call with Manning will not only be to get the names of potential candidates for the GM vacancy but also to “explore whether or not Peyton would be interested in being a general manager for the Colts as the entry point that would include ownership interest in the Colts.” Mannings’ connection to the Colts doesn’t need to be explained to anyone, but it’s far too early to say whether Manning has any interest in the role. Long-time GM Chris Ballard was recently relieved of his duties, and the Colts will likely speak to several candidates to fill the role in the offseason. Manning has not been involved in any football front office roles since retiring after the 2015 season.

Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds will lead the team’s personnel department for the remainder of the season.

With the Colts sitting on a 2-4 record and the trade deadline 22 days away, Dodds could be involved in some key roster decisions over the next three weeks. Dodds was hired as the Colts’ vice president of player personnel in 2017 and has been a candidate for several GM openings over the last few offseasons. Depending on how things go the rest of the way, it’s possible Dodds earns a chance to be promoted to the Colts GM position next offseason after the team fired Chris Ballard earlier in the day.

Ja’Kobi Lane caught 4-of-5 targets for 40 yards in the Ravens’ Week 6 loss to the Browns.

Lane was immediately involved in the offense after missing the previous four weeks with a wrist injury. The rookie third-rounder caught two of his four passes on the Ravens’ opening drive that ended with a short touchdown pass to Josh Cuevas and ran 22 routes on the day. Zay Flowers (34) and Devontez Walker (26) both ran more routes than Lane on the afternoon, but Lane has been targeted on 21.1 percent of his routes in limited action this season. Fantasy managers shouldn’t be looking to start him in Week 7 against the Bengals, but the early volume is encouraging for a player who was hyped up throughout training camp.

Jordan Davis (ankle) told reporters x-rays were negative on his ankle and he feels “OK” at this point.

Davis is still a candidate to be limited in practice this week, but it doesn’t look like this injury is a major threat to send him to injured reserve or anything like that. Talking with the media after the game is a good sign for his future ability.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Jalen Hurts “will be out an estimated three months as he undergoes treatment” for blood clots.

This would effectively end Hurts’ season, as a three-month absence would have him on track to return some time in late-January/early-February. In a statement released by Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lyyn, she said further tests revealed “deep vein thrombosis as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli.” She said that Hurts is stable and is not expected to have any “functional limitations” and that his treatment to resolve his blood clotting issues “should only involve anticoagulation [i.e., ‘blood thinners’].” As a result, Hurts will not be permitted to engage in football activities and will not be allowed to resume them until he is off his blood thinners. The good news here is that Hurts is expected to make a full recovery, and the doctors do not believe this will have a long-term effect on him moving forward. Hurts threw for 933 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions this season while completing 57.8 percent of his passes — his lowest mark since his rookie season. He ran for another 107 yards and one touchdown as he and the Eagles struggled in his first five starts under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. He remains under contract through the 2028 season, but Hurts has faced his fair share of scrutiny since leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl title in 2024. Hurts’ contract situation would suggest his job is more than secured for the foreseeable future, but this is the same Eagles front office that used a 2020 second round pick to select him as the heir apparent to Carson Wentz, who signed a four-year extension with the team in 2019. While we fully expect Hurts to be back with the Eagles next season, we can’t rule out the team using an early draft pick on a quarterback in a draft that is projected to be one of the more QB-rich drafts in recent memory. Tanner McKee, who started Week 6’s game against the Panthers, will take over as the team’s starter going forward.
