Cam Skattebo rushed 17 times for 124 yards and a touchdown in New York’s Week 7 win over the Texans.

Skattebo looked rejuvenated after his benching, bulldozing a few Houston tacklers on his touchdown run that ended with a backflip. He did pull up late on a 42-yarder that could have sealed the game, and he seemed to be gesturing towards his hamstring on the sideline. We don’t have a full update on that as the Giants quickly closed out the game thereafter, but Skattebo will get a bye week to heal up as we try to figure out how this Giants backfield will sort itself out. Skattebo’s fantasy value looks to have bounced back to some real extent today.

Skattebo appeared to have tweaked his hammy on a 42-yard run in overtime that had a chance to be the game-winning run for the Giants. Despite the scare, Skattebo said he expects to be okay, especially with the Giants set to enter their Week 8 bye. His status will be one to monitor when the Giants resume practicing ahead of Week 9’s game against the Eagles, but for now, it doesn’t sound like there’s too much to be worried about here. Skattebo rushed 17 times for 124 yards and a touchdown last week after failing to see a touch in Week 6 following his costly Week 5 fumble against the Commanders.
  • NYG Running Back #44
Skattebo was benched for his fumbling issues last week. He did not touch the ball once, while Najee Harris, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary all got a few opportunities. The team then cut Harris a few days after Sunday’s loss. After a week in the doghouse, Skattebo appears to be back as the team’s top runner, though we still expect a committee approach from John Harbaugh. Rapoport even said that it’s unclear who will draw the start, so we aren’t sold on Skattebo as a safe fantasy option this week. At best, he’s a high-risk RB3.
  • NYG Running Back #44
Sigh. Three-player backfields are generally fantasy-unfriendly situations, and this one is no different. Skattebo is a capable dual-threat player who has seemingly been limited by the significant ankle injury he suffered last year. The Giants could get him more involved in the passing game, but Tracy can contribute there as well, muddying that opportunity. Singletary would not be a contributor for many NFL teams, but lucky him, he’s a New York Giant. Skattebo and Tracy are viable FLEX options, though both are likely touchdown-dependent.
  • NYG Running Back #44
Hughes makes clear that he thinks Skattebo’s time as the clear-cut lead back is over, recapping coach John Harbaugh’s offseason attempts to acquire a bellcow, while noting that Skattebo is currently in the doghouse. Hughes believes Skattebo is a nice complementary player who can function as a physical change-of-pace option. The biggest issue the Giants face in replacing him is cost. He thinks a player like Jonathan Taylor will cost a Day 2 pick, at least, and he is not sure Taylor is worth that, given the Giants’ long-term plans for the 2027 draft capital they’ve accrued via various personnel moves. Trading away Kayvon Thibodeaux is an option, but doing so is challenging with Brian Burns (knee) out for the year.
  • FA Running Back #23
The move comes a couple days after Harris criticized the New York coaching staff for its handling of the backfield touch distribution. “It’s hard to get into a rhythm with one or two plays...if you’re getting a play here and then get taken out for a series, there’s nothing you could do,” Harris said after the Giants’ Week 6 loss to the Saints. “I’ve never been through none of this before.” Harris had 31 rushes for 99 scoreless yards before getting the boot. With Harris gone, Cam Skattebo could get another chance to see increased playing time after being all but benched last week. Tyrone Tracy, who led the team in rushing attempts against New Orleans, could be the de facto lead back for now.
  • NYG Running Back #29
Tyrone Tracy appeared to do the most with his opportunities last week, scoring the game’s only two touchdowns. Najee Harris was bottled up and Cam Skattebo was soft benched while Devin Singletary led the team in snaps while they were in comeback mode for most of the second half. By the letter of what he’s offering here, Tracy is probably the player who should get the majority of the snaps against the Texans. In actuality, we have no idea what will happen here and this quote doesn’t really help us. “I don’t like (rotating backs) either,” Harbaugh said per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan after the game. “One of those guys needs to step up. Somebody needs to step up and be the back. And none of those guys have done that yet.” We suspect we’ll be diving beat writer opinions ahead of Sunday.
  • NYG Running Back #44
Before the game, it was widely reported that the Giants would start Najee Harris with Skattebo dealing with fumbling issues to start the season. This was indeed the case as Skattebo saw zero touches and just six snaps on the day, last among all four Giants running backs. After the game, head coach John Harbaugh insisted the team did not bench Skattebo, but it’s hard to see this as anything else. Fantasy managers will be hoping Skattebo will be out of the dog house after no Giants running backs surpassed 20 yards rushing against a poor Saints run defense. He is cautiously in the RB3 ranks until further notice.
  • NYG Running Back #23
Fowler was adding to a report from Jordan Raanan, who said Harris is “likely to have a larger role with Cam Skattebo downgraded but still part of the mix after the fumbles.” Skattebo has indeed struggled with fumbles, putting the ball on the ground four times this year. No running back has more fumbles, and Skattebo’s most recent blunder cost the Giants a shot at an overtime win versus the Commanders last week. They instead settled for a tie. Even if Skattebo winds up leading the team in carries this week, he was only valuable for fantasy managers because of his high-volume role. With that out the window, Skattebo is buried in the RB3 ranks for Week 6.
  • NYG Running Back #44
Giants beat writer Dan Duggan chimed in with “I would be very surprised if [Cam] Skattebo has the same RB1 workload on Sunday that he’s had in the first five games.” Skattebo has put the ball on the ground four times in the first five games. Najee Harris has one in 27 carries and Tyrone Tracy has added two. It sounds like Harris may start to be a significant thorn in the side of Skattebo-reliant managers.
  • NYG Running Back #44
Skattebo rushed for just 12 yards on six carries in the first half as he and the Giants struggled on the ground for most of the day. He would come up with a few big runs in the second half, one of which resulted in a 19-yard gain in overtime as the Giants were attempting to drive into position for a game-winning field goal. Unfortunately for Skattebo, disaster struck later on the drive when he lost a fumble on the Commanders’ 24-yard line, which was recovered by Washington and ended any hopes of a Giants’ victory. Poor late-game clock management by the Commanders made Skattebo’s fumble a little less costly, as the two sides would end Sunday’s game in a tie, but it’s impossible to overstate how big a 4-1 start to the season would be for the Giants, who are playing in a struggling NFC East. Skattebo hasn’t rushed for more than 81 yards in any game this season and has only one touchdown to his name. His reliable volume continues to put him in fringe RB1/RB2 territory, but it’s been a disappointing start for the second-year back. He’ll look to turn things around next week against the Saints.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans did not have an update on David Montgomery’s groin injury when speaking with the media on Monday

Montgomery, who missed the Texans’ last two games with his injury, is coming off the team’s Week 8 bye, and there was some hope he might be able to get on the field for Week 9’s game against the Chargers. While that may still be the case, it’s possible we will need to wait until Wednesday, when the team releases its first injury report, to see how Montgomery is trending heading into the weekend. The 29-year-old running back has struggled mightily this season even when healthy, rushing for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 52 carries while averaging a dismal 2.7 YPC. Even if he is active against the Chargers, Montgomery would be hard to trust as anything more than an RB3/Flex play given his performance pre-injury.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said “we’ll see” when asked if A.J. Brown (knee) could practice this week.

This is basically a non-answer from Vrabel, who said the team will see how Brown progresses through the week and how he responds to treatment. Brown missed Week 8’s game against the Dolphins after he suffered what was described as a flare up” of a knee issue that has plagued him for some time. It’s far too early to assume Brown will be able to go in Week 9 against the Packers given the timing of his injury last week, so his status will be one to keep an eye on throughout the week.

Chargers signed CB Jalyn Armour-Davis, formerly of the Titans.

Armour-Davis saw his 2025 season come to an end in Week 17 when he suffered a torn Achilles. The 27-year-old corner has spent the last 11 months rehabbing his injury and is now set to make his return for the winless Chargers. To the surprise of nobody, Armour-Davis is yet another player with ties to a Harbaugh brother, as he began his career playing under John Harbaugh with the Ravens from 2022 to 2024. Now, he’ll have a chance to play under Jim Harbaugh and could see playing time in the coming weeks once he gets up to speed. Armour-Davis allowed 24 receptions for 346 yards and two touchdowns on 31 targets last season while with the Titans, earning a PFF coverage grade up 49.6.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Breece Hall (quad) is “now good to go and should play next week” against the Chiefs.

It was reported on Sunday that Hall was “hoping for next week,” which is now here, as the Jets prepare to take on the Chiefs in Kansas City. After logging a week of limited practices and entering last weekend as questionable, Hall was still scratched from Week 8’s game against the Raiders, leading some to believe he had suffered a setback in his recovery. Hopefully that was more of a case of the Jets exercising caution with their RB1, especially with Braelon Allen playing well in his absence. Hall’s status will still be one to monitor, but this is a very optimistic report on him to start the week.

Jaguars DT DaVon Hamilton suffered a torn quad in Week 8’s win over the Colts.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the injury. This is expected to be a season-ender for Hamilton, who has totaled 16 tackles and a half sack this season. Hamilton has earned a 74.0 PFF defensive grade this season and is a key contributor top-five run defense.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said “we’re in the business of keeping good players” when asked if the team would consider trading Breece Hall before the deadline.

The Jets are 2-6 and Braelon Allen has put together a solid few weeks in Hall’s absence. As a result, there has been some speculation as to whether or not the Jets would consider moving Hall, who has missed the last five games with a quad injury. In addition to saying the Jets are “in the business of keeping good players,” Glenn also was sure to remind the media that Hall is “one of our better players,” suggesting there are no plans to move the 25-year-old back at this year’s deadline. If he’s able to play next week against the Chiefs, Hall would fall somewhere in the RB2 ranks in his return.

Saquon Barkley said the Eagles informed him that they don’t intend to trade him ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

Speaking with the media early Monday morning, Barkley said he was informed that the team would not be trading him despite falling to 2-6 on the season after Sunday night’s loss to Washington. Barkley rushed 13 times for 30 yards and a touchdown in the loss while catching one pass for another 24 yards. The soon-to-be 30-year-old back could have decent trade value for the Eagles in what is shaping up to be a lost season, but it sounds like he’s in the team’s future plans heading into 2027. Barkley is playing through injuries and has just 56 carries for 274 yards and two touchdowns this season, and has caught seven passes for another 41 yards. Assuming he can get in another week of practice this week, he’ll be a fringe RB1/RB2 in Week 9 against the Giants.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tyler Huntley is going to miss “extended time” after suffering a turf toe injury in Week 8’s loss to the Bills.

Even in the best-case scenario, Huntley felt like a long shot to play in Thursday night’s game against the Jaguars, but it sounds like this is going to be a multi-week absence. An MRI will confirm the severity of his injury in the days ahead, but for now, rookie UDFA Joe Fagnano is expected to draw the start against the Jags for the 4-4 Ravens. Lamar Jackson, who will be placed on IR in the coming days, will undergo surgery to repair the thumb he dislocated in Sunday’s game, meaning the Ravens will bring in a veteran QB through a trade or free agency in the near future. It should go without saying, but all of the Ravens’ key fantasy assets will receive a noticeable downgrade with Jackson and Huntley both out.

YaYa Diaby is believed to have suffered a sprained MCL after the Buccaneers’ Week 8 win over the Falcons.

Diaby will undergo an MRI to confirm the severity of the injury, but according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team his hopeful that this injury will “not cause him to miss extended time.” Diaby has 16 tackles, three sacks, and one interception this season, with all three of his sacks coming in the Bucs’ Week 7 win over the Panthers. Even if he doesn’t miss too much time, it’s possible he’ll be sidelined for at least Week 9’s game against the Bears on Sunday Night Football.

Chig Okonkwo caught 2-of-4 targets for 32 yards in the Commanders’ Week 8 win over the Eagles.

Okonkwo flashed his athletic ability with a full-stretch reception in the second half but it was not enough to overshadow a first quarter fumble. The spry veteran has now been held to four receptions or fewer in four of five appearances in the low volume Washington pass offense, unable to return consistent fantasy value through the absence of Terry McLaurin. He is best left on fantasy benches in a Week 9 matchup against the Rams.
