Jaydon Blue signed to the active roster

Eagles signed RB Jaydon Blue from the practice squad to the active roster.

Blue was called up as the replacement for Dameon Pierce, who was placed on injured reserve this week. Saquon Barkley entered Week 7 with a lingering hamstring issue. He then suffered a back injury and was in and out of the lineup for the remainder of the game. With little left to play for, the Eagles may choose to put their star running back on ice for a while. That would leave Blue and Elijah Mitchell as the next men up. Mitchell was the RB3 for Philly in Monday’s game, but he wasn’t signed to the active roster. Our money is on Blue seeing more work this week, though it’s a messy situation at best.
Florio: Hurts investigation must be 'transparent'
With the NFL and NFLPA yet to begin a formal investigation into the Eagles' handling of Jalen Hurts' blood clots, Mike Florio explains why the end results must be made public.

Jaydon Blue was signed from their practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move. Pierce went down with an injury on a kickoff return in the fourth quarter of Monday’s game. The team has not announced the exact injury yet, but Pierce will now miss a minimum of four games. Blue will back up a still-very-injured Saquon Barkley. Barkley returned from his hamstring injury in Week 7, only to suffer a back injury in the process. Blue has an outside chance at starting for the Eagles this week, making him worth a look on waivers.
  • PHI Running Back
With both Saquon Barkley (back) and Dameon Pierce (undisclosed) shuttling off in the fourth quarter, it was practice squad elevation Mitchell helping to close out a loss to the Cowboys. It’s certainly possible that Mitchell will be involved in whatever happens next week given the two injuries ahead of him, making him an interesting waiver wire thought.
  • PHI Running Back #38
This time, they mean it. Mitchell has a decent chance to be elevated for Week 7 based on what we know today, which is that the Eagles waived Ian Wheeler from the practice squad and have only Saquon Barkley and Dameon Pierce on the active roster. This appears to be quite a fluid situation.
  • FA Running Back #30
They tacked on a waived/injured listing for Carson Steele, leaving the backfield with just Saquon Barkley and Dameon Pierce on the active roster. Blue did not officially get into a game with the Eagles after signing at the end of August. He’ll look to catch on elsewhere.
  • PHI Running Back #34
Steele caught a screen pass in the flats and lowered his head to try and run over the defender. He came up holding his shoulder and had to have the shoulder immobilized as he walked into the locker room with his pads off. It had the look of a dislocation, which would mean Dameon Pierce and Jaydon Blue are the only two healthy running backs for the Eagles.

It was pretty clear that this was where things were headed when Barkley was unable to practice on Wednesday and Thursday. We do not yet know Barkley’s official Friday practice participation level, but he was not seen practicing during the portion of practice open to the media. Dameon Pierce, Carson Steele and practice squad player Jaydon Blue will likely split touches this week.
  • PHI Running Back #26
Barkley is firmly on the wrong side of questionable for his team’s Week 6 game against the Panthers, potentially leaving Dameon Pierce, Carson Steele and practice squad player Jaydon Blue to split touches. Hopefully, reports clarify whether Pierce would handle a sizable workload as the de facto starter.
  • PHI Running Back #8
Rapoport reports there are hopes that Bigsby will be back “in six weeks or shorter.” The 24-year-old back will be required to miss at least four games now that he’s headed for an IR stint. With Saquon Barkley (hamstring) also at risk of missing at least one game, third-string RB Will Shipley could be in line for a busy day in Week 5 against the Jaguars. Shipley rushed six times for 23 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Rams, but could be a sneaky option in PPR leagues given his pass-catching profile during his days at Clemson, when he caught 85 passes over three seasons. It also wouldn’t be surprising if Dameon Pierce or Jaydon Blue were promoted off the practice squad and saw early down touches while Shipley serves in more of a third-down role. There’s a lot to figure out here over the next few days.
  • DAL Running Back #20
Regarding Davis’ injury, Fowler’s source said simply, “it’s bad.” The Cowboys’ No. 2 running back is undergoing further testing, but we expect them to place him on injured reserve before long. The Cowboys waived RB Jaydon Blue and RB Phil Mafah last month. Blue has since signed with the Eagles’ practice squad. The Cowboys have RB Emari Demercado on the active roster behind RB Javonte Williams. Currently, only RB Israel Abanikanda is on the practice squad in Dallas.
  • PHI Running Back #23
Blue was waived by the Cowboys and went unclaimed, and the 2025 fifth-round pick will remain in the NFC East. He’ll begin the campaign behind Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley as backups to Saquon Barkley, but some strong performances in practice could give the 22-year-old a chance to receive touches in 2026.

Christian Kirk (knee) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Kirk comes out of the 49ers’ bye as a limited practice participant due to a knee issue. He was not targeted in Week 7 after returning off a calf injury and should remain off fantasy rosters even if he plays in Week 9 against the Raiders.

Reed Blankenship (consussion/hand) did not practice Wednesday.

Blankenship has been dealing with a concussion since Week 6 and still has it listed as an injury designation nearly three weeks later. He is also listed with a hand injury. Blankenship will need to progress through concussion protocol to have a chance at playing in Week 9; he is on the wrong side of questionable for now.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said RB Kenneth Gainwell’s usage is getting closer to the “1A, 1B” usage the team envisioned when signing him.

Gainwell saw 25 carries in a run-heavy game against the Falcons in Week 8. Bowles said, “I think we finally got to where we’re utilizing Kenny more and more, and that’s kind of the 1A, 1B we were talking about when we first signed him.” Gainwell saw 50-percent of the snaps for the first time all season last week and now has back-to-back weeks of at least 14 carries. He is still seeing low utilization in the passing game and game script has certainly played a role in his recent role, but it is notable that Bowles mentions the Bucs envisioned a 1A/1B backfield pairing between Bucky Irving and Gainwell. Despite Bowles’ comments, fantasy managers should anticipate Irving operating with the majority of backfield touches, like he did from Weeks 1-6. We will still have to see Gainwell’s usage in a more neutral game script to feel confident about him as a fantasy option moving forward.

Jihaad Campbell (hamstring/quad) did not practice Wednesday.

Campbell missed the Eagles’ Week 8 game against the Commanders after not practicing all of last week due to hamstring and quad injuries. He starts out this week DNP, along with DBs Michael Carter (abdomen) and Jonathan Jones (hamstring) on the defensive side of the ball. All three will need some kind of practice later in the week to have a chance at reinforcing the Eagles defense in Week 9 against the Giants.

Jake Elliot (ankle) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Elliot was listed as a limited participant for the Eagles’ Wednesday practice. The 31-year-old has made 6-of-7 field goals this season and all 17 extra points. He is still trending to play in Week 9, but if the Eagles add another kicker sometime this week, that would indicate Elliot’s ankle injury is a real issue.

Trent McDuffie (back) did not practice Wednesday.

McDuffie played through a groin injury in Week 8 and seemingly picked up a new back injury during the game. Rams head coach Sean McVay said McDuffie will be a DNP Wednesday, indicating the 26-year-old’s back issue is more than a minor flare-up. It’s possible he is getting the day off to rest the groin and back injuries, but Rams fans should keep an eye on his practice status the rest of the week. It’s safe to say McDuffie is truly questionable for Week 9 against the Commanders.

Colby Parkinson (ribs) did not practice Wednesday.

Rams head coach Sean McVay announced Parkinson would be a DNP on Wednesday. The 27-year-old has been dealing with a rib injury since Week 7, missing the Rams’ Week 8 game against the Chargers. Starting out DNP puts him on the wrong side of questionable for Week 9 against the Commanders.

Jaylen Waddle (chest) is practicing in full for Week 9 against the Panthers.

Waddle played through a questionable tag with this injury last week, catching 3-of-6 targets for 39 yards and one touchdown against the Chiefs. He apparently made it through the contest without re-injuring himself and can be started as a WR3 this week against the Panthers.

Pat Bryant (ankle) is practicing in full for Week 9 against the Panthers.

Bryant’s 21-day practice window has been opened, and it begins with a full session, putting him on track to play in Week 9 against the Panthers. The Broncos’ passing game has severely underperformed expectations. Bryant does not necessarily need to be added in 12-team formats, though he could ultimately compete for No. 2 wide receiver duties.

The Athletic’s Nate Atkins believes the Rams must find a way to trade for a wide receiver before the November 10th deadline.

The Rams’ resources are thin. They already traded away their 2027 first- and second-round picks, their 2028 second-round pick and their 2029 third-round pick. They also have just $8,000 in 2026 salary cap space, so restructuring the potential new add’s deal would be required. Atkins believes the Rams should consider Josh Downs as the top option due to his ability to beat man coverage and contribute as a returner. Other options, according to Atkins, include Calvin Ridley, Keenan Allen and Jauan Jennings, “for the likely cost of a Day 3 pick.”
