The 56-year-old was one of 44 players that hadn’t played on the PGA TOUR in (at least) the last six months as the tourney went deep into the woodworks to fill the field. This was his first TOUR start since a T70 at the 2018 opposite-field Barbasol last July, which was his only event in 2018. Lancaster was 3-over thru three holes, 14-over total when he called it a day, leaving Martin Trainer and Sam Horsfield as a 2-ball. As of press time, no reason has been furnished for the WD.

Lancaster was the fourth alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry due to two withdrawals this afternoon before opting out. He’ll stick with 20 starts remaining on his medical extension in the reshuffle category to earn $786,977 and a promotion to the Major Medical category.

This is an interesting decision given that he missed both cuts on the West Coast Swing but had the Mayakoba as one final opportunity to rise in the reshuffle. Instead, he’ll remain buried near the bottom on his medical extension. Of course, Lancaster turns 50 in September so his sights might be on the long-term anyway.

The 49-year-old was a victim of his draw, playing both rounds in the windiest conditions on either day. He’s now 0-for-3 this year and has 20 starts remaining on his medical extension in the reshuffle category to earn $786,977 and a promotion to the Major Medical category.

Since a successful run at Q School in 2009, the 49-year-old hasn’t teed it up in a PGA TOUR event. (He had major surgery on his shoulder just four days after the six-round grind that December.) He’s made one start in each of the last two years on the Nationwide Tour, however. If he returns to the big leagues and earns $786,977, he will get elevated to the Major Medical category. The one-time PGA TOUR winner will turn 50 in September.

In his first round on the PGA TOUR since August 2009, Lancaster was greeted rudely at Torrey Pines South on Thursday. He split just five (of 14) fairways, hit 12 greens and required a whopping 35 putts. He tightened the screw a bit on Torrey North in his second round but never came close to sniffing a paycheck. This leaves him with 22 starts on a medical extention in the reshuffle category to earn $786,977 and get elevated to the Major Medical category.

If he plays, it will be his first appearance in a PGA TOUR event since the Reno-Tahoe Open in August 2009. Immediately after graduating from Q School that fall, he underwent major shoulder surgery. He has 23 starts on a medical extension in the reshuffle category to earn $786,977 and get elevated to the MME category.

He survived the cut on the number and would eventually rank last in birdies (six), but his $11,144.00 payday is his first on the PGA TOUR since August 2009. It leaves him with 19 starts on his medical extension in the reshuffle category to earn $775,833 and a promotion to the Major Medical category.

He landed only 18 greens in regulation in 36 holes and erased a mere three birdies with 10 bogeys. This leaves him with 16 starts on his medical extension in the reshuffle category to earn $764,793 and a promotion to the Major Medical category.
