The USGA added six players to the final field for the 115th U.S. Open, including four alternates from sectional qualifying.
Two players, Kevin Kisner (No. 55) and Andy Sullivan (58), qualified for the Chambers Bay event based on being inside the top 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking as of Monday. That left four remaining spots that the USGA had reserved for players possibly playing their way into the Open via the rankings.
Kevin Chappell, Jimmy Gunn, Steve Marino and Josh Persons were awarded the quartet of spots as alternates at sectional qualifying. Chappell was the first alternate from the Columbus, Ohio sectional; Gunn first alternate from Memphis, Tenn.; Marino first alternate from Dallas; and Persons was first alternate from Rockville, Md.
Gunn and Persons will be competing in their first U.S. Opens. Chappell and Marino will be competing in their fourth and fifth Opens, respectively.
