Red Sox DH David Ortiz launched his 475th career home run in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Blue Jays, moving him into a tie for 29th on baseball’s all-time home run leaderboard with Stan Musial and Willie Stargell. Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff are next on the list at 493.
The blast capped off a five-run fifth inning for the Red Sox, halving their deficit, but they still went on to lose 13-5. Ortiz, 39, hasn’t done a whole lot at the plate this season, batting a meager .229/.313/.414 with nine home runs and 28 RBI in 240 plate appearances.
