It was first reported over a month ago that the Mariners were entering a naming rights deal for their ballpark with T-Mobile, but it’s only official as of today. The team just announced the deal this afternoon.

The facility will change from a “Field,” as in Safeco, to a “Park,” as in T-Mobile Park. The new name takes effect next year under a new naming rights deal. The joint had been known as Safeco Field since it opened in 1999 through this past season when its 20-year naming rights deal expired.

This one will last for 25 years, expiring after the 2043 season. By which time, one presumes, the current Mariners rebuild will be over.
