The Rays have done this before -- i.e. wearing “throwback” jerseys to a time when the team did not exist -- but I feel like they’re doing it slightly better this time. Here’s the look they’ll sport on Sunday:
The Rays started this in 2012, but with a different color scheme. They wore these as recently as June:
The new ones are just the road variation, I suppose. But they’re a bit better simply because they’re a tad less of a direct Padres ripoff. Still not great, but when your team has as little history as the Rays do, you gotta try things.
