Twins calling up Trevor May to replace injured Ricky Nolasco

Minnesota did everything it could to avoid giving a rotation spot to prospect Trevor May, but now that Ervin Santana is suspended for half the season and Ricky Nolasco is hurt the Twins have little choice but to turn to the 25-year-old right-hander.

Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Twins are expected to call up May from Triple-A and will likely place Nolasco on the disabled list with an elbow injury.

May’s big-league debut last season was mostly a mess, but after a brutal first few outings he posted a nice 41/9 K/BB ratio in his final 37 innings. He’s not a top prospect--I ranked him 11th within the Twins’ well-stocked farm system--but May pitched well at Triple-A last season and doesn’t have much left to prove in the minors at this point.
