Video: Alex Rodriguez hits career home run No. 662

Alex Rodriguez

New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez pumps his fist as he runs the bases after breaking Willie Mays’ record on the all-time home run list after hitting his 661st home run in the third inning of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium in New York, Thursday, May 7, 2015. Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez kept rolling on Monday, blasting career home run number 662 in the top of the first inning against Rays starter Alex Colome. He drilled a 2-1, 95 MPH fastball for a no-doubt solo home run to left-center.

Rodriguez now has eight home runs and 20 RBI on the season while hitting .245/.352/.559. Now by himself in fourth place on baseball’s all-time home run leaderboard, his next target is Babe Ruth at 714. Needless to say, he won’t be getting there this season.

Tying Ruth would also net him the second of five $6 million bonuses in his contract. He achieved the first by tying Willie Mays at 660 recently. The Yankees don’t plan to give Rodriguez any of those bonuses, claiming his use of performance-enhancing drugs and involvement with Biogenesis makes his on-field accomplishments unmarketable.
