The Grizzlies have received permission to interview Bulls assistant Ed Pinckney for their head coach position, league sources tell CBS Sports’ Ken Berger.
The Grizzlies are reportedly impressed by the job Pinckney has done under coach Tom Thibodeau. The former Villanova assistant also spent two years on the Timberwolves’ coaching staff. According to Berger, the Grizzlies have already spoken to George Karl and Alvin Gentry on the phone and plan to interview them in person in the next few days. Berger also lists assistant coach Dave Joerger as a candidate for the opening, while Brian Shaw is apparently not on Memphis’ list.

Ed Pinckney was finally hired as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.
This has been rumored for a couple of weeks now. Pinckney, who was an assistant coach at Villanova, will be charged with working with the post players, including newcomer Al Jefferson.

Contrary to an item that appeared in Friday’s Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Villanova assistant coach Ed Pinckney has not agreed to become an assistant coach with the T-Wolves, reports the Philadelphia Daily News.
Okay, so it’s a slow news day. But the fact is Pinckney has been sought after by several NBA teams to join their coaching staff over the past couple of years, so we assume it will happen at some point.
