Mavericks signing Jonathan Gibson, waiving forward Quincy Acy

With Devin Harris already injured, Deron Williams and J.J. Barea got hurt in the Mavericks’ loss to the Celtics last night. That left Dallas’ point guard depth chart as:

1. Seth Curry.

So, enter Jonathan Gibson, exit Quincy Acy.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports:

The Mavericks signed Gibson last offseason to a fully guaranteed salary and waived him before the regular season anyway. Dallas values preseason competition and will pay a premium for it.

Gibson excelled for the Mavericks’ summer-league team and internationally before that. The 29-year-old went undrafted out of New Mexico State in 2010. He’s more of a scorer than a traditional point guard, but at 6-foot-2, he’ll have to handle the point in the NBA. If his outside shooting translates, that could buy him time to develop his distributing.

Acy can be a nice hustle player, but he has struggled this season. The Mavericks will eat his minimum salary, and maybe – like Gibson – give him another deal as their needs change.
