President Obama congratulates Spurs’ Becky Hammon for becoming NBA’s first full-time female assistant coach

The Spurs named Becky Hammon as an assistant coach this week, and while she technically may not be the first female ever to hold the position at the NBA level, she is expected to be the first to hold the gig full-time, while having its full range of responsibilities.

Hammon appears to be more than qualified for the position, but her hiring for a job in an all-male sports league is ground-breaking nonetheless.

And it didn’t go unnoticed by the President of the United States.

Congrats to @BeckyHammon, @NBA‘s first full-time female coach. When #WomenSucceed, America succeeds — and we know the @Spurs will, too. -bo
