You don’t often see head coaches on the bench in Las Vegas… at the bars and the occasional craps table, yes. On the sidelines doing some scouting, sure. But NBA head coaches don’t actually do any coaching at the NBA Summer League.
Well, Steve Kerr is.
The freshly minted rookie head coach of the Golden State Warriors will be stalking the sidelines in Las Vegas, coaching the Warriors’ Summer League team, reports Monte Poole at CSNBayArea.com.
“Yes, I will coach summer league,” Kerr told me via text message on Tuesday….
Meanwhile, he continues to identify and speak with prospective assistants. Among the names prominently mentioned is David Blatt, whose work in competition overseas and internationally has created a reputation for offensive creativity.
Kerr would not talk specific names he is speaking to about being an assistant coach.
Jason Kidd coached the Nets in the Orlando Summer League last year, although primarily you heard Lawrence Frank yelling out to the players and Kidd sitting there stoically. We’ll see how Kerr is on the sidelines.
