Neither Trenton Hassell (sore heel) nor Latrell Sprewell (sore ankle and big left toe) was able to do more than shoot during Monday’s practice.
Both are day-to-day but should see action.

The Trail Blazers are expected to sign guard Trenton Hassell to a five-year, $27 million offer sheet.
The Wolves want to keep Hassell, but that price may be too high. If Hassell joins the Blazers he’ll back up Derek Anderson and see time at small forward.
  • BKN Small Forward
Trenton Hassell has made seven of 14 shots through his first two preseason games.
If Hassell continues to perform offensively, Wally Szczerbiak can be more certain of a reserve role or a trade out of town.
  • BKN Small Forward
Trenton Hassell came off the bench Thursday to score 17 points and collect six boards and four assists on a perfect shooting night of 8-of-8 from the floor.
Don’t expect this type of scoring from Hassell. He was one of the few Wolves to make shots in the first three quarters of this game.
  • BKN Small Forward
Trenton Hassell continues to come off the bench for the Wolves, despite their inabitlity to win games. Tonight he had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
Based on the highly publicized struggles with the Wolves right now (this was their third-straight loss), we are amazed that Flip Saunders has not tried to shake things up by starting Hassell and bringing Wally Szczerbiak or Latrell Sprewell off the bench. Something’s got to give.
  • BKN Small Forward
Trenton Hassell had a season-high 19 points and added five boards and four assists in a loss to the Rockets.
He guarded Tracy McGrady all night, and eventually fouled out. This kind of offense is rare for him, meaning he’s not a very good fantasy option.

With eight players 25 years old or younger, the Timberwolves may be trying to move veterans like Trenton Hassell, Juwan Howard, Ricky Davis, Mark Blount and Marko Jaric.
With little chance of winning this season, the Wolves may move some of these guys for a few more young pieces that will help in the future. We already know they’re actively pursuing a trade for Howard, while Davis is the most intriguing player from a fantasy standpoint. If he stays in Minnesota and plays, he’s going to be a top fantasy player. If he’s traded or comes off the bench, he’ll obviously have much less value.

Jerry Stackhouse has been starting at shooting guard for the Mavericks, with Jason Terry coming off the bench, but that doesn’t guarantee he’ll be a regular starter when Josh Howard comes off his suspension for Game 3.
Avery Johnson could decide to bring both Stack and Jet off the bench, starting Trenton Hassell or Eddie Jones. The Dallas Morning News’ Tim MacMahon suggests that Eddie Jones will start at shooting guard, but Howard could also play the position with Jones, Hassell or Stackhouse getting the nod at small forward. Stay tuned.

The Minnesota Timberwolves traded guard Trenton Hassell to the Dallas Mavericks for guard Greg Buckner on Friday night.
Hassell, who spent the last four seasons with the Wolves, averaged 6.7 points per game and three rebounds in 476 games. He’ll have no fantasy value with the Mavericks, just as Buckner won’t have any fantasy value in Minnesota.

According to a short snippet in the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, defensive specialist Trenton Hassell could be on the verge of being traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
Charley Walters doesn’t offer any details, but it’s fairly well known the Mavs are still looking to add a piece or two and the Wolves are ready and willing to deal their veterans.
