The Saints signed Cade York to their practice squad this week, but the veteran will not be handling their kicking duties against the Dolphins on Sunday.
The team announced that they have elevated Charlie Smyth from the practice squad to take on that role. Blake Grupe was released after missing a pair of kicks in last weekend’s loss to the Falcons.
Smyth will be making his regular season debut against Miami. The Northern Ireland native was a Gaelic football player before signing with the Saints in 2024 as part of the international player pathway program.
The Saints also elevated wide receiver Dante Pettis. Pettis has one catch in two games this season and he’s also seen time as a returner for New Orleans.
The Saints opened Wednesday’s practice without their top running back and their top wide receiver left the session early.
Chris Olave was listed as a limited participant after exiting with a back injury. Head coach Kellen Moore said it was a new issue for Olave, so his participation will be something to watch as the team moves closer to Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.
Running back Alvin Kamara left last Sunday’s loss to the Falcons with a knee injury. He was also listed with an ankle injury on Wednesday’s report. Devin Neal replaced him against Atlanta, but was limited with an ankle injury.
Right tackle Taliese Fuaga (ankle) missed the Falcons game and was listed as limited on Wednesday.
The Dolphins signed linebacker Caleb Johnson to the active roster from the practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.
Johnson has not appeared in a regular-season game this season.
He has played 65 career games in four seasons with Chicago (2021) and Jacksonville (2022-24). Johnson has totaled one tackle, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in addition to 37 special teams tackles.
He also appeared in two postseason games with Jacksonville in 2022.
Johnson entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Chicago in 2021.
The Dolphins signed linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo to the practice squad.
Ciarlo appeared in one game with the Bills this season.
He entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Jets in 2024 and spent the season on the injured reserve list.
Coming off their Week 12 bye, the Dolphins are getting a key offensive contributor back on the field this week.
Via multiple reporters, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday that tight end Darren Waller will have his 21-day practice window opened to return from injured reserve on Wednesday.
Waller has been out with a pectoral injury. After coming out of retirement to play for the Dolphins over the summer, he was sidelined by a hip issue to start the year. In his four games played, he’s caught 10 passes for 117 yards with four touchdowns.
Additionally, McDaniel noted that there is no current timetable for return for guard James Daniels, who is also dealing with a pectoral injury. Kicker Jason Sanders is getting closer to practicing again, having been sidelined by a hip injury. Center Andrew Meyer is also likely to return sooner rather than later, though McDaniel had no update on guard Liam Eichenberg, who has been out all year so far.
The Dolphins placed safety Jordan Colbert on injured reserve, the team announced on Friday.
Colbert left Sunday’s game against the Commanders with a stinger.
He has appeared in five games this season, recording five special teams tackles. Colbert played 62 special teams snaps but none on defense.
Colbert entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent in 2024 and spent his rookie season on the Dolphins’ practice squad.
The Dolphins placed cornerback JuJu Brents on injured reserve on Thursday.
