On Sunday, the Jets will try to get their first win of the season, against the Cowboys. Along the way, they’ll also try to get their first takeaway of the season.
The Jets are the only NFL team that has forced neither a fumble nor an interception in 2025.
And if the Jets don’t create a turnover against the Cowboys, the Jets will become the first team since at least 1933 — when turnovers were first tracked — to go five games without getting one.
Meanwhile, the Jets have coughed the ball up seven times. The easy (for most, not for me) math results in a turnover margin of minus-7 for the Jets.
On Friday night, former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed in Indianapolis. On Saturday, Sanchez was arrested.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced on Saturday that Sanchez was arrested at a local hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. All charges are misdemeanors.
Sanchez remains hospitalized. He has not yet been officially booked.
The statement explains that the Marion County Prosecutor Office’s decision will make the final decision on whether Sanchez will be charged with one or more crimes. It advises any interested parties to seek the probable cause affidavit(s) supporting Sanchez’s arrest from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office or the Marion County Clerk’s Office.
The statement, which mentions no other arrests, says that all interested parties have been identified, and that no other individuals are being sought.
The implication of the statement is that the police currently believe Sanchez was not acting in self-defense, and that an altercation culminated in Sanchez attempting to enter a motor vehicle. Presumably, the other person involved in the situation was inside the car.
The statement mentions no other arrests, which suggests that the other person will not be accused of wrongdoing.
The probable cause affidavit(s) will be highly informative. The statement from the other person involved, along with Sanchez’s statement (if any), will say plenty. There also could be surveillance video of the altercation.
For now, and as the police statement notes, Sanchez is presumed innocent. The next step will entail the prosecutor deciding whether charges should be pursued. Often, the decision is driven by the question of whether the prosecutor believes the charges can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Jets have parted ways with a kick returner who lost a fumble for the second time this season.
Isaiah Williams lost a fumble in the team’s Monday night loss to the Dolphins in Week 4 and the Jets waived him on Saturday. They waived Xavier Gipson after he lost a fumble in their Week 1 loss to the Steelers.
Williams also had a fair catch at the Jets’ 3-yard line on a punt, so the fumble was not his only miscue.
Linebacker Mykal Walker was signed off of the practice squad to take Williams’ roster spot. They also elevated safety Dean Clark and running back Avery Williams from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.
The Cowboys placed safety Malik Hooker (toe) on injured reserve Saturday, the team announced.
He will have to miss at least the next four games before returning.
Hooker injured his toe in the tie with the Packers on Sunday night.
In four games, Hooker has 20 tackles.
The Cowboys signed safety Alijah Clark to the active roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move. An undrafted rookie, Clark has yet to play a regular-season game.
Juanyeh Thomas will start in Hooker’s place.
The Cowboys also announced they elevated wide receivers Jalen Brooks and Jalen Cropper from the practice squad.
The Cowboys will be without wide receivers CeeDee Lamb, KaVontae Turpin and Jonathan Mingo on Sunday. Mingo remains on injured reserve after the Cowboys did not activate him back to the active roster.
Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez, who currently calls games for Fox, was stabbed last night in Indianapolis, according to TMZ.com.
Per the report, police received a call at 12:30 a.m. local time to downtown Indianapolis. Sanchez was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Sanchez was in Indianapolis for Sunday’s Raiders-Colts game on Fox.
A first-round pick in 2009, Sanchez spent five seasons with the Jets, two with the Eagles, one with the Cowboys, one with the Bears, and one with Washington.
Sanchez started working for Fox in 2021. Before that, he called college games for ESPN.
UPDATE 1:59 p.m. ET: Fox has issued a statement on the situation. “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” the company said. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
