Jets quarterback Justin Fields will have to clear the concussion protocol before he’s able to return to action.

Fields went for a concussion evaluation in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 30-10 loss to the Bills and head coach Aaron Glenn announced that the quarterback is in the protocol during his postgame press conference.

Fields’ head slammed into the turf when he was hit by Bills edge rusher Joey Bosa while throwing an incompletion and he was sent to the medical tent after being sacked on the next play. Fields then returned to the locker room for further evaluation.

It was a rough day for Fields before the injury. He was 3-of-11 for 27 yards and he lost a fumble in the first half to help the Steelers on their way to a blowout win.

The Jets offense looked better than expected in Aaron Glenn’s first game as their head coach, but the team fell short on both sides of the ball in Week 2.

The Bills beat them 30-10 while rolling up 403 yards of offense and limiting the Jets to 154 yards of their own. In his postgame press conference, Glenn said that his preparation was lacking in the days leading up to the game.

“Apparently, I didn’t have the guys ready to play . . . It’s not OK to lose like that,” Glenn said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

Glenn answered several other questions about individual performances by saying that he has to watch the tape of the game. He’s unlikely to like what he sees and Jets fans are unlikely to like hearing the kind answers to lopsided losses that they’ve heard from several coaches over the years.

The Bills made life much easier for themselves in Week 2.

A week after needing a remarkable 16-point comeback in the fourth quarter to beat the Ravens, the Bills jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Jets and were never in any trouble on their way to a 30-10 win.

Running back James Cook staked the team to a 7-0 lead on their opening possession and added a 44-yard score later in the first half. Cook finished the day with 21 carries for 132 yards and the Bills ran for 224 yards overall.

Quarterback Josh Allen had 59 yards on the ground, which offset a quiet day through the air. He also gave the Bills a scare when he went to the sideline with a bloody nose on a hit in the first quarter, but only missed a couple of plays before getting back on the field. He was 14-of-25 for 148 yards, but the Bills didn’t need a big show through the air this week.

A major turnaround for the defense had a hand in that. They allowed 154 yards a week after allowing the Ravens to roll up 432 yards and limited the Jets to 100 rushing yards on the afternoon. They sacked Justin Fields three times and forced him to fumble on a day that ended when Fields went to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion.

Fields was 3-of-11 for 27 yards before giving way to Tyrod Taylor and the performance raises questions about whether last week’s strong outing had more to do with a shaky Steelers defense than anything the Jets are doing. Next Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers will bring some answers to that question.

The 2-0 Bills will return home to host the 0-2 Dolphins.

A miserable offensive game for the Jets will end with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback.

Justin Fields went to the sideline medical tent for a concussion check after the back of his head slammed into the turf on a hit by Joey Bosa in the fourth quarter. Fields was then seen returning to the locker room while Taylor came on the field for his first appearance of the 2025 season.

CBS Sports reports Fields is still being evaluated for a concussion. If he is diagnosed with one, Fields will have to clear the protocol to play in Tampa next weekend.

Fields was 3-of-11 for 27 yards before leaving the game, so the Jets will have work to do on their offense whenever he’s cleared to return.

The Bills lead 30-3 with just over 10 minutes to play.

The Jets offense was better than many people expected it to be in Week 1, but they haven’t found the same groove against Buffalo in Week 2.

James Cook ran for two touchdowns, including a 44-yarder, to push the Bills to a 20-3 lead at MetLife Stadium. The Jets, on the other hand, have picked up just 78 yards of offense through the first 30 minutes of play.

Cook has 10 carries for 83 yards overall and the Bills have 147 yards on the ground at the break. Josh Allen has 47 of them, but he’s just 8-of-16 for 70 yards through the air.

Allen briefly left the game to have trainers stop a bloody nose that he suffered at the end of a short run late in the first quarter. Mitchell Trubisky completed a 32-yard pass while Allen was out, but Allen quickly returned with gauze in a nostril to take care of the bleeding.

Justin Fields has run five times for 49 yards, but lost a fumble, took a sack, and went 2-of-8 through the air in the first half. They’ll need to find a better approach after the break if they’re going to have any chance of making a game of this one.
