Bills contact Charlie Weis

Last night, someone submitted a question during the Sunday Night Football Extra Live Chat regarding the Bills’ coaching vacancy.

The response: “I have this weird feeling about Charlie Weis and Buffalo.”

And it could be turning into something more than a weird feeling. WIVB-TV in Buffalo reports that the Bills contacted Weis through back channels in recent weeks to determine whether Weis is interested in the job.

Per the report, Weis is interested.

Though Weis and the Bills have yet to discuss the job formally, it appears that he’ll be in line for an interview. As WIVB points out, Weis was interviewed for the job in 2004, when Mike Mularkey was hired.

With Mike Shanahan, Mike Holmgren, Jon Gruden, and Bill Cowher already telling the Bills “no,” there aren’t many other guys out there with a high degree of name recognition. So if the Bill are hoping to generate some buzz and/or make a splash, Weis could be the guy to enter a division that could be renamed the “AFC Tuna,” given the connections between Miami V.P. of football operations and Pats head coach Bill Belichick, Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum, and Weis.
