With Shonn Greene inactive for Sunday’s game vs. the Jaguars, rookie Bishop Sankey has been the Titans’ featured back. And in a three-play sequence in the third quarter, the second-round pick from Washington showed some promising running skills as Tennessee extended its lead to 13-7 over Jacksonville.
Consecutive rushes of 22, 7 and 8 yards from Sankey put the Titans well into scoring range, and Ryan Succop’s 21-yard field goal gave the Titans the first points of the second half. On the carries, the 5-foot-10, 209-pound Sankey’s quickness and patience and tackle-breaking ability were on display. On the 22-yard rush, he quickly got through the hole, and he proved tough to bring down on the second level.
Going forward, it will be interesting to see if Sankey gets an uptick in carries even if Greene is back in the field. Sankey had just one double-digit carry game in the first five weeks for Tennessee.
