One thing elite players never lack is motivation.
Even if they have to invent it themselves.
So even though it’s hard to find anyone to suggest that Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is over the hill, Johnson insists that those not-people who don’t-say-it are wrong.
Two months short of his 30th birthday, hardly old, Johnson said he has plenty of good football left in him.
“No doubt,” he said, via Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. “What did I miss, four, almost five games last year? Still came up with just over 1,000 [yards]. I still have some [good years] left.”
While injuries limited him last year, he still caught 71 passes for 1,077 yards and eight touchdowns, numbers which would be fine for any young, able-bodied player.
So closing in on 30 doesn’t really faze him.
“Not really,” he said. “It’s a mind-set more than anything. If you have injuries, it’s tough. But I’m feeling good right now.”
So take that, you non-existent critics. Calvin Johnson will not be hearing your non-existent criticism.
