At one point on Monday, Chargers coach Mike McCoy said that the team wasn’t sure whether or not they’d place linebacker Donald Butler on injured reserve after Butler dislocated his elbow in Sunday’s loss to the Broncos.
The team obviously revisited the issue later in the day because they eventually announced that Butler’s season is over before. Butler ends the year with 73 tackles and a sack in 14 games. The injury means that Butler will miss out on playing a 16-game season for the third straight year. He’ll try again in 2015 as he returns to the team after signing a seven-year deal to remain in San Diego during the offseason.
Kavell Conner, Andrew Gachkar and Reggie Walker are options at inside linebacker alongside Manti Te’o.
The Chargers announced that they have promoted cornerback Greg Ducre from the practice squad to return the roster to 53 players. Ducre spent preseason with the Chargers and landed on their practice squad before signing with the Redskins. Ducre was dispatched by Washington last week, however, and landed back in San Diego.
