Cowboys settle for three to open scoring in Philly

With Dez Bryant out for multiple weeks, there have been several members of the Cowboys offense mentioned as possible occupants of larger roles.

Tight end Gavin Escobar is one of them and he came close to scoring a touchdown for the second straight game in the first quarter of Dallas’s game against the Eagles. Escobar was ruled down at the 1-yard-line after a 13-yard catch and run and the ruling stood up on replay review after a Jason Garrett challenge.

The Cowboys had driven the ball 79 yards to that point, but they weren’t able to make it 80 as Joseph Randle was stopped for no gain before two Tony Romo incompletions forced the Cowboys to settle for a field goal.

It was the first good drive for the Cowboys offense after a pair of punts and their defense has forced two three-and-outs in their first three appearances to make that field goal enough to make them 3-0 leaders with the first quarter coming to a close.
