Well, Tom Brady’s first appearance post-#DeflateGate was at Salem State.
Maybe that’s why the guy he took his job from thinks the league is trying to burn Brady at the stake.
Former Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe said it’s unfortunate that the more probable than not under-inflation of footballs has cast his old team in a negative light.
“The overriding thing for me is, I hate to see the way this thing is portrayed for the Patriots. It’s like there’s a witch hunt against these guys. That they’re bad guys, cheating their way to the top,” Bledsoe said, via Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. “That’s simply not the case. That part really bothers me. Obviously, I’m very close with Mr. [Robert] Kraft and his family, and Tommy and I have stayed close through the years. I don’t like to see that, because that’s not who they are.”
Bledsoe said he had texted with his former teammate, and said he suspects the entire flap is weighing on Brady.
“I’m certain it’s something that’s very, if nothing else, tiring for him to have to deal with. It’s such an inconsequential thing in my mind. And then for him to be raked over the coals about it, I hate to see it,” Bledsoe said. “I hope it’s not souring him on continuing to play, because I want to continue to watch him play. . . .
“I haven’t talked to Tommy about it. I just think the story is kind of silly to be honest with you,” he said. “I’ve said that from the beginning. It’s being treated like this huge conspiracy. Ultimately we’re talking about some footballs and a pound of pressure. It’s not really something that I think should be treated the way it’s been treated.”
Many would agree with him, but none of those people are Roger Goodell, who will hear Brady’s appeal later this month. Perhaps the texts from Bledsoe might turn up, if Brady hands over his cell phone, as well.
