The Falcons signed running back Antone Smith to a two-year deal Tuesday, giving themselves some cost certainty and a special teamer.
Smith was going to be a restricted free agent, but other teams are trying to lock up guys at something less than the $1.3 million low tender, such as the Cowboys with center Phil Costa. In addition to some bonus money on the front side, teams try to buy a year of unrestricted free agency.
Terms of Smith’s deal aren’t known.
Smith played in 13 games last year, primarily on special teams.
