Titans quarterback Vince Young’s time as a starter ended in Week One of the 2008 season, in part due to injury and in part due to a bizarre reaction to booing from the home crowd, followed by a bizarre situation unfolding the following evening, when Young went missing and sparked concerns that he might have intended to harm himself. Veteran Kerry Collins assumed the job, and re-signed in the offseason with the express understanding that he will be the starter. And so for Young to become the starter again, he’s going to have to take the job back from Collins. “Vince is in a situation now where he will have to do everything he possibly can to earn his job back,” Fisher recently said. “That starts with the offseason commitment.” Theoretically, Young can reclaim the job. (Theoretically, so can I.) “Kerry is returning as our starter. If for some reason Vince has a great camp and Kerry hits a wall, I’m talking about a hypothetical, but there is always that possibility,” Fisher said. Kerry might be interested to know that such a possibility exists. Then again, he can’t expect that he’ll keep the job even if he stinks it up. The more likely possibility is that something on the gray-bearded Collins will sprain or snap, and Young will have to step in. The deeper message to young is that it’s time to dump the shirtless tequila parties and focus on making the same kind of commitment that JaMarcus Russell and Matt Leinart need to make in order to fulfill their lofty expectations. Fisher also said that the Titans will sign another veteran quarterback. Chris Simms left for Denver earlier this month.
