The Patriots have done good business in the past with veteran defensive players at the ends of their careers.

They’re giving it another shot today.

According to John Clayton of ESPN, former Saints defensive end Will Smith is visiting the Patriots today.

Smith’s attempt to fit into a 3-4 with the Saints never got off the ground last year, as he tore his ACL in training camp. Before then, there were legitimate questions about whether he’d fit or whether he wanted to. It became a moot point when he became part of their veteran cap-clearing purge in February.

He’s been a productive pass rusher at times in the past, and for a cheap fill-in, the Patriots could do worse.
