NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell went to a PTA meeting on Friday, and not to talk about programs at his kids’ school.
Goodell was a speaker at the national convention of the Parent Teacher Association this morning in Cincinnati, and he said he wants to take a leadership role in improving the safety of sports. Goodell has long made clear that he wants to make the NFL safer for its players, but Goodell also said he thinks he and the NFL can play a broader role in making sports safer for children across America.
According to the Associated Press, Goodell told local school leaders that they should push for children to have properly trained coaches and safe equipment.
Goodell noted that NFL teams and players have promoted health and fitness programs for children and have urged youth football organizations to reduce helmet-to-helmet contact and to improve their policies on reporting and treating head injuries.
