The Jaguars didn’t take a quarterback in the draft, opting instead for a pair of undrafted free agents to add to Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne this offseason.

One of those undrafted rookies won’t be making his case for a roster spot during OTAs. John Oehser of the Jaguars website reports that Jordan Rodgers, who played at Vanderbilt and is also known as Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ younger brother, had sports hernia surgery and will be sidelined until training camp.

The news on Rodgers comes just after Matt Scott, the Arizona product also signed by the Jags, returned to work after suffering a high-ankle sprain during rookie minicamp. Scott’s going to get more reps during the team’s organized activities and June minicamp with Rodgers on the sideline, snaps that should serve him well in his battle with Rodgers for the third quarterback spot.

With the Jaguars’ new regime playing the evaluation game with quarterbacks, the winner of that spot could conceivably find himself higher in the pecking order before the year is out.
