Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones was named the NFC’s offensive player of the week after lighting up the Eagles for nine catches, 141 yards and two touchdowns in Monday night’s victory, but he didn’t emerge from the game unscathed.
Jones said that he spent time in the trainer’s room after the win because he picked up several cuts and scratches on his arms and legs from the Georgia Dome turf, which contributed to the decision to have him sit out Wednesday’s session. Coach Dan Quinn didn’t express much concern about Jones’s status for this week’s game against the Giants.
“We were laughing during the game,” Quinn said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "[Jones said,] ‘I’m going with rule two, no excuses.’ He’s a battler.”
Linebacker O’Brien Schofield sat Wednesday with a leg issue and defensive end Malliciah Goodman was out with a triceps injury. Wide receiver/kick returner Devin Hester and linebacker Brooks Reed remained out after missing the season opener.
UPDATE 4:42 p.m. ET: The Falcons’ official injury report for Wednesday lists Jones’s hamstring as the reason for his absence, but the team’s website reiterates Quinn’s lack of concern about the wideout’s status for Sunday.
