Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor didn’t get the new contract he wanted after a holdout that extended into the 2015 regular season, which means he’s still set to make a non-guaranteed $5.1 million for the 2016 season.
Chancellor is also signed for the 2017 season and the Seahawks have generally resisted revisiting deals with that much time left, which leaves open the possibility for a sequel this summer if Chancellor still wants a revised contract with the team. While leading a boot camp workout for women in Seattle recently, Chancellor was asked about any lessons he learned from last year’s workout and suggested that he’s left last year’s squabble behind.
“I learned that I’m a leader, that God put me on this earth to be a leader for my team, and the past is the past, and I’m here to lead my team to do exactly what I was created to do -- nothing more, nothing less,” Chancellor said, via the Seattle Times. “I’m here to be the kind of man that helps pull through adversity for my teammates. The big brother, the leader, the captain, and that’s all I’m here to do and that’s what my vision is focused on right now.”
Chancellor has used social media to say he plans to be in Seattle this season, something Seahawks General Manager John Schneider said he also expects, and that he “can’t wait to suit up with my brothers again.” The Seahawks open the voluntary portion of their offseason program on April 18 and have a mandatory minicamp from June 14-16.
