Locos shut down Mountain Lions, 26-3

Every weekend brings us NFL and college football action. It also brings us a pair of UFL games, even though most of you don’t notice them.

The Sacramento Mountain Lions would prefer that you not notice their most recent outing.

In a season (so far) of closely-matched UFL contests, the Las Vegas Locos traveled to Northern California and smacked down the Mountain Lions, 26-3.

The contest featured 19,000 fans, and nearly that many turnovers from Sacramento quarterback Daunte Culpepper. (OK, he didn’t have nearly 19,000 turnovers, but it seemed that way, via four interceptions and a fumble.)

“Daunte did not have a good day at all obviously,” Mountain Lions coach Dennis Green said. “We ran the ball okay. Protection was okay. The run blocking was the best it’s been so far this year. There are a lot of things going on. . . . It was interceptions and fumbles.”

The potentially bigger quarterback news came for the Locos, who lost Tim Rattay late in the game with an Achilles injury. If the tendon is torn, Rattay will be done for the season.
