More carries coming for Larry Johnson

The Cincinnati Bengals have turned Cedric Benson into a workhorse back this season, with 37, 34 and 36 carries in his last three full games.

But Benson has missed two games and parts of another, and now the Bengals may be reducing his workload.

Steve Wyche of NFL Network reported on NFL GameDay Morning that Benson and Larry Johnson will share carries today against the Minnesota Vikings.

It’s a move that makes a lot of sense: The Bengals are going to be a playoff team, and they need to have Benson healthy and fresh into January. Giving him 35 carries a game in December isn’t the way to do that. Acquiring Johnson may turn out to be a mid-season move that makes a big difference down the stretch for Cincinnati.
