Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson has his new long-term contract and now it is time for him to resume practicing with his teammates.

Wilkerson broke his leg in Week 17 and didn’t take part in the team’s offseason program while both rehabbing and angling for a new deal, so the team opted to put him on the physically unable to perform list at the start of camp. Wilkerson was eligible to come off the list at any point during the preseason and the Jets announced on Tuesday that the day has arrived.

The reasons Wilkerson landed on PUP will likely mean a gradual return to full speed so that Wilkerson avoids setbacks and is ready to go for the start of the regular season.

The Jets activated running back Khiry Robinson from the PUP list on Monday, which leaves right tackle Breno Giacomini and wide receiver Devin Smith as the only players awaiting their activation this summer.
