Richard Sherman isn’t the only member of the Seahawks organization feeling good about the team’s secondary.

Sherman said recently that he believes the team’s defensive backs are just hitting their prime with several successful seasons already under their collective belt. Coach Pete Carroll is also bullish on the group with the flexibility they provide defensive coordinator Kris Richard being of particular interest.

“This is really as strong as I’ve felt we’ve gone into this portion of the year with versatility, and the competition is really going to be on,” Carroll said, via ESPN.com “We’ll hopefully be able to situate that. Kris will get it all squared away. We can take advantage of that. It does give us choices, matchup-wise, if it all stays somewhat the same. So that’s a real positive.”

The Seahawks had Sherman move around the field more often last season and they used Jeremy Lane and DeShawn Shead as outside and slot corners depending on the matchups each week. That’s expected to be the case again this season and the Seahawks have also brought Brandon Browner back to play a hybrid corner/safety role in the defense, which they hope leads to a rebound for Browner and an even more flexible approach in the back end of their defense.
