Philip Rivers: I know they count on me to be better

After the Chargers lost to the Broncos in Week Eight, quarterback Philip Rivers said he was “fired up” about the chance to play two straight games at home and get to 5-5 heading into their bye week.

The Chargers got a win last week, but they couldn’t hold onto a 24-21 lead in the fourth quarter thanks to four Rivers interceptions. Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso took one of them 60 yards for the game-winning touchdown in a 31-24 Miami win, leaving Rivers to point directly at himself for the team falling to 4-6 on the season.

“I hate it for the guys in there,” Rivers said, via the San Diego Union-Tribune. “We had plenty of opportunities. I know they count on me to make those. I do as well. Just didn’t get it done today. ... It’s sick; I hate it. I’ve had some games where I haven’t been good. All of them, the quarterback shares in the loss. But I haven’t had many like this.”

The Chargers have lost several offensive pieces to injury and the offensive line play was shaky on Sunday, but Rivers said he “just didn’t play good” in a loss that leaves the Chargers trying to chart a highly unlikely path to the playoffs over their final six games.
