During an interview Tuesday morning, running back Ahmad Bradshaw said that he’d be interested in jumping to the other team that calls MetLife Stadium home after his release from the Giants.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, that’s not happening. Mehta reports that the Jets’ reaction to word of Bradshaw’s thoughts about staying in the same zip code can be characterized as “thanks, but no thanks.”
Bradshaw’s probably going to get a lot of that right now. He just had surgery on his right foot to replace a screw from a previous surgery with a bigger one in hopes of repairing an issue that he tried to correct with stem cell treatments before the 2012 season. Bradshaw’s probably going to need to show he’s fit before getting a contract with anybody else and that’s not expected to happen for another couple of months.
Assuming they don’t re-sign Shonn Greene, the Jets will likely be in the market for a running back to go with Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight. Bradshaw’s health makes him a risky choice since neither of the other two options have ever been the top dog in an NFL backfield before and the Jets need to be more effective running the ball regardless of who winds up as their quarterback in September.
Bradshaw’s done the lead job before, but the physical toll it has taken on him may leave him best suited to a different role in his next home.
