The Texans are home against the Jaguars on Sunday for a game they need to win to guarantee they stay on top of the AFC South and it looks like they’ll have to win it without the help of linebacker Whitney Mercilus.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that Mercilus is expected to sit out on Sunday because of a back injury. Mercilus was listed as questionable on Friday after missing two days of practice during the week.

Mercilus has not missed a game so far this season and leads the team with 5.5 sacks, so his absence would be a big one.

The Texans will also be without linebacker John Simon, who was ruled out with a chest injury. They may get cornerback Johnathan Joseph back in the lineup after he got in a limited practice on Friday, but he missed the first two days of the week to earn a questionable designation.
