Ryan Tannehill “did exactly what big-time players do”

Miami Dolphins v Los Angeles Rams

For 53 minutes on Sunday, the Dolphins offense was little more than a rumored participant in their game against the Rams in Los Angeles.

The final seven minutes made it a lot easier to take how poor things went up until that point. The Dolphins sandwiched two touchdown drives around a three-and-out by the Rams and quarterback Ryan Tannehill shook off what had plagued him earlier in the game for a game-winning finish.

Tannehill completed 12-of-13 passes for 115 yards on the final two possessions, including touchdown passes to Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Tannehill did that with three offensive linemen missing and the Dolphins are now 6-4 with a five-game winning streak.

“Hell of a job,” Landry said, via the team’s website. “He did exactly what big-time players do. He made the plays when they count. He did that for us tonight. He carried us, to continue this winning streak we’ve got. Something special.”

There was a lot of talk about Tannehill being a game manager in recent weeks with the Dolphins arguing that it wasn’t the negative label that others might be suggesting when they use it. The close of Sunday’s game saw Tannehill doing much more than just managing the game and that’s something the Dolphins will like to have in the arsenal as they try to continue their push for a playoff spot.

Now they just need to work on keeping the situation from looking quite so dire before things fall into place.
