Tavon Austin says defenses are scheming to stop him

Rams receiver Tavon Austin has been a disappointment this season, signing a four-year, $42 million contract in August and responding with just 37 catches for 316 yards, plus 14 rushes for 63 yards. But Austin says there’s only so much he can do.

Austin said last week that opposing defenses are game planning to take him out of the game, and so far this season they’ve had success in keeping Austin from making many big plays.

“Teams are not crazy,” Austin said. “They definitely know what they’re doing, and they know the guys they want to take out of the game.”

Austin said he was expecting opposing defenses to scheme against him.

“I definitely wasn’t surprised,” Austin said. “One game, you can get 15 touches, and the next game you might not touch the ball. That’s how this league is. Defenses know how to take you out of the game. I definitely don’t get discouraged about it. I know my day will come again. I just have to get ready.”

The Rams hope that day comes soon.
