Taekwondo: USA’s Lopez upsets No. 4 seed, onto quarters in quest for third gold

USA taekwondo legend Steven Lopez is onto the next one.

At age 37, Lopez is looking for his third gold medal and first of any kind in 8 years.

The No. 13 seed in the 80kg bracket, Lopez has taken the appropriate first step, beating Russia’s Albert Gaun 7-4 in the preliminary round to advance to the quarterfinals.

There he’ll face No. 5 Lutalo Muhammad of Great Britain or No. 12 Hayder Shkara of Australia.

Lopez won his first Olympic gold medal in Sydney, adding another in Athens before taking bronze in Beijing.
