STAMFORD, Conn. – Jan. 23, 2020 – NBC Sports presents the $4 million Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida this Saturday, Jan. 25, live at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
Mucho Gusto, the 2019 Haskell Invitational runner-up and the 9-2 favorite, will break from the #10 post and will be joined in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational field by 2019 Breeders’ Cup Classic third-place finisher Higher Power (6-1) and Grade 2 winner Tax (8-1). Headlining the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational is last year’s Pegasus Turf runner-up Magic Wand, who will race alongside 2019 Breeders’ Cup Mile third-place finisher Without Parole and Hollywood Derby winner Mo Forza in the 1-3/16 mile turf race.
In its second year as a championship series, the Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series will include the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), to be contested by the expected 10-horse field on the dirt at 1-1/8 miles, and the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1). The horses in both the Pegasus World Cup Invitational and Turf Invitational will compete free of any medications on race day this year.
Ahmed Fareed hosts Saturday’s coverage, alongside Hall of Fame jockey and analyst Jerry Bailey; analyst Randy Moss; and reporters Nick Luck and Britney Eurton. NBC Sports’ Triple Crown race caller Larry Collmus will call the dirt and turf Pegasus races.
Analyst/handicapper and U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Eddie Olczyk will partake in a special pucks and ponies “daily double” this weekend, as he will join the Pegasus broadcast via remote from St. Louis, where he’ll call the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in primetime on Saturday (8 p.m. ET on NBC).
Musician Nelly, who will narrate NBC’s show open, will perform at the event.
